Prom 2021, Community Center, Friday Evening

In the Student Council's defense, having "spring" be the base of the prom theme came up before there was pollen ravaging the air. Were they fully leaning into it now? Of course--welcome to your pastel-colored, glitter-covered steampunk-in-spring prom!

The Community Center had been decorated with all things steampunk - gears, wires, random shiny bits with glass in them - intertwined with flowers and vines and all covered with shiny pastel paint. (The non-shiny paint was buried too far back of the supply closet and really, was it even worth searching for?)

The food and punch were as normal as anything could be with all the pollen floating around, so hopefully you were just here to dance--tastefully, please.

Was this dress a tad revealing for Tahani's normal style? Yes. But it was Versace, so that added class points, right? And she looked fabulous in it.

Alexis had put a lot of thought into her dress. She'd be wearing it to prom, and probably a college party, and she wanted something eye catching, and maybe with easy access.

Shuri was normally a very low-maintenance sort of girl, and she was still not putting on her ceremonial corset thank you every so much, but it was her last dance and so she came to slay.

Eleanor arrived looking somewhat spiffy in her vintage dress she scrounged up from wherever.

And if not interrupted she'd be heading straight to the punch bowl to spike it.

Lydia was no more a prom girl than a party girl, really, but she was here all the same. Part of it was that she knew what Barbara and Adam would tell her to do (which was go), part of it was that she kind of figured a prom here might be kind of interesting, and a not-insignificant part of her just wanted to see hot people dressed up.

Could you blame her?

Fashion had never really been something that Astrid had felt fully drawn to, probably because before Claire, even before Starr, she was mostly given hand-me-downs and whatever fit. That had changed a little bit, because of Starr, because of Claire, because of various shopping trips for things like school dances. But she'd sort of went her own way this year, and wound up discovering something a bit off the beaten path and falling in love.

And it had pockets!

Sometimes being Spider-Man meant that you couldn't exactly go to school. Especially if there were weird crimes afoot back in your home dimension. So Miles had missed most of the week of school, returning in time for the dance and avoiding the pollen for the most part.

And while it wasn't fashion runway material, he at least made the effort with the suit he had.

Troy was keeping it nice and simple with a relaxed black jacket and tie, but, you know, with sneakers because that was way cooler, and, look, just be glad he was wearing a shirt again, alright?

Five was wearing a suit. It was the style of someone much, much older than he looked, so it was appropriate for his age, really.

He looked around at the party with a look of absolute disdain. "Ugh. Youths."

Prom attire had been a... fraught shopping trip between Illyana, Wong, and Strange. Mostly because Strange had fashion sense, Illyana did NOT want to wear a dress she couldn't fight in if something tried to invade the dance, and Wong had to mediate.

The end result? Well, Illyana had been under the influence of pollen (not that she'd known it at the time), and it was a little more daring (especially the back) than she'd normally wear. But right now? She was fine with that.

Ulysses showed up, eventually, looking reasonably well put-together. The suit fit his lanky frame close enough, though his curly hair was doing its usual floppy thing, and the wispy mustache and goatee were still there, as always.

He'd been kind of avoiding crowded places this week, and as it turned out right now, with good reason. He was definitely looking disrespectfully. He couldn't help it.

Should've worn shades or something.

Or everyone at this school should've been less hot.

Lana was quite happy with her dress - even if it wasn't actual leather, it was something she could fight in if necessary - and very happy with her hair, which Sabine had done for her again in a blonde-to-red flame.

She was definitely more than happy with her date.

She wasn't terribly happy to be here among all these other people, but she supposed that it was a good excuse to practice fueling herself with emotion.

The DJ had a wide variety of music playing, some fitting the theme and some just... fitting for people who might want to dance closely for some reason.

Adora wasn't a bad dancer, especially when she was relaxed, she just sometimes tended to overthink things and forget how to use her limbs properly when she wasn't.

So now there was an eight foot tall glowing woman flailing around on the dance floor.

Faye had received a strongly-worded memo indicating that she had to chaperone this dance (and she suspected it had come from whoever it was who had exacted bed-related revenge in Japan.) So she was here, slouched against a wall in a dress that was in no way actually appropriate to wear to chaperone a high school dance.

It wasn't even the pollen's fault.

If Zoe looked a little nervous, it was probably just the wary looks she was giving the other chaperones, no big deal.

"Good evening, everyone. It's my honor to announce this year's prom court. Our junior queens are Astrid Magnussen and Nina, and our junior king is Troy Barnes. For the seniors, your prom royalty is Eleanor Shellstrop, Shuri, and Wayne."

Tiaras and crowns for everyone but keep your hands to yourselves!
