When Summer got into the bar, she was feeling a little sad that she didn't actually go with a whole summer theme for her jello shots that day, because apparently one of the zombies had gone on vacation to Jamaica this last week, had gotten himself a steel drum, and was suuuuper into it. And, honestly? Once Summer realized that what they were playing were just steel drum versions of popular songs, she was pretty down with it, too.

And, really, she hadn't realized that the zombies even ever took vacations, and you know what? Good for them.

Tonight's jello shots served with an extra side of potential diabetes!

"Are those desserts or shots?" Seivarden asked.

She showed up early, and found her usual spot at the bar.

"Mmmm, both?" said Summer. "Things can be more than one thing, you know. It's called multitasking."

Was she already setting up a line of said shots from her tray in front of Seivarden?

Duh.

Including the tuna and pork one?

Double duh.

Maybe she wouldn't notice.

"So, dessert jello shots," Seivarden said, picking up the pork and tuna one without paying attention.

"How are you, Summer?"

"I see you only chose to honor the popular candy that everyone likes," Annie noted in greeting.

And was it possible that her good humor was a little bit of a put-on at the moment? She was clearly exhausted, even if sleeping here last night (and the subsequent coco puff breakfast ~~and whatever it is she did for shenanigans~~) had been restorative and good for her, and Annie was engaging in a little faking-it--til-she-made-it, as far as cheerfulness went, today.

To be fair, a Mounds jello shot almost made it on, but every link to a recipe appeared to be dead or something else entirely.

Blame google, Annie. Blame society. Don't blame Summer!

But still.

"Alright," Summer decided, sure, she'll take that bait. Being a people pleaser (or at least a friend pleaser) usually just meant less work for her in the long run in coming up with what to make every week. "So what did I forget that I should have included because apparently you've decided to 'Not Like the Other Girls' with candy preferences?"

"Almond Joy?" Annie suggested, like it should have been obvious. "I like a Charleston Chew, too, but I know that's a harder sell for most people."

And by most people, she meant that Diego specifically had told her she was disgusting on at least one occasion.

Jessica was not the girl who was so excited to see a friend that she'd jump and down with giddy screams before going into a tackle hug.

No. It was her getting a drink first and then heading over to sit down next to Annie and then giving her a friendly punch to the shoulder.

"Hello stranger. No costume tonight?" she teased.

This was about as close to giddy as Jessica could get.

"Nah, I'm out in my 'secret identity' tonight," Annie told her with a broad smile, and yes, she totally put air quotes around that.

(Though oof, Jessica, if you could see her new uniform -- well. There'd probably still be punching involved.)

"Brought you a present," she added, fishing around in her purse before pulling out one of the Starlight shirts she'd been handing out -- except, of course, that Jessica's, like Diego's, was in black.

Did anyone enjoy them, Stark? Besides Anakin?

"I got to swim in one of the ugliest shirts I've ever laid eyes on," Annie replied dryly, huffing out a sigh. "So no, not really. Does he just choose people at random for these?"

She would clearly need to come to the island later in the day if she was going to be here on a Wednesday.

Did the candy really make up for the other shot though? Especially after a day that had already involved Stark being dragged out of bed to do radio and Anakin's regularly scheduled torments?

"I was hoping you weren't serious," Stark said with a sad look at the specials board. "I should have known."

"I'm always serious when it comes to jello," Summer informed him, because, yeah, he really should have known. "I actually tried it, too. I usually don't, but even I couldn't help being a little curious. It's absolutely terrible, but, look!" She gestured toward the board. "At least four other options to cancel it out!"

Summer? Was possibly going to be a little annoyed if Stark was still going to get mopey about something he knew was going to happen when she'd tried to go out of her way to actually soften the blow a little bit, because seriously. Dude. She tried!

"You tried it? On purpose?" Summer, no. Love yourself!

"I'll try not to accidentally offer any suggestions next week." And then because Stark was morbidly curious and he had to ask "have you convinced anyone else to try it?"

Jessica stepped into Caritas and hearing the steel drums almost just turned around to walk out.

But she had reasons for visiting today. So she was at the bar and completely ignoring the Jello shot menu.

"Bourbon," she requested. "How are you doing, Summer?"

Wow. She actually greeted Summer. What was going on here? It was bordering on polite.

Summer pretty much already had the drink poured by the time Jessica sat down. It wasn't like she switched it up a whole lot, and the whole 'drinks before the regulars even sit down' thing was a point of stupid pride for her at this point.

"Pretty good," she answered, disgustingly pleased with how true that actually was for the moment. "How about yourself, Jessica? See you're actually teaching this summer!"

But not, like, THIS Summer. She tried, but the moose said no, and you don't argue with the moose.

Jessica's eyes rolled so hard at that. Not at Summer but the fact that she was teaching.

"I'd like to think of it as a calling," Jessica replied. "Either that or the moose thought there needed to be more organized drinking on Thursday nights. Whatever the fuck that means."

"You have Stark to thank for that," Summer informed him, although she looked a little smug about it, since it was clearly more complicated and amazing than just that. "But I'm glad you approve."

In fact, shevwas already setting him up with a row of thr full set. Including the less sugary one.

"Good to have you back, Mr. Morningstar. Any post-vacay withdrawals yet?"

"So the zombies are definitely feeling a vibe, huh," Jesse said, as she settled into an entirely random seat at the bar.

"The drummer went to Jamaica, apparently," said Summer, with a shrug, setting down a generic beer for Jesse. "Guess the islands are a part of him now. Literally, because I'm pretty sure that's not the arm he left with."

She'd duct-taped it back on enough that she felt she'd know.

Because you actually can't chill with steel drums playing and it's a good way to escape them.
