Thanks to Apu and the very nice card that he'd gotten the whole T&C crew to sign and some flowers that she could only assumed he'd picked up last minute when he went to Covent to get Astrid's signature, Summer knew it was, apparently, World Redhead Day (which she figured would have just been St. Patrick's, but okay). And while she didn't usually buy into all that crap that she was pretty sure he just made up, she also wasn't usually staring down the barrel of a long weekend of forced family camping, either, so, you know what? Yeah. They were totally celebrating World Redhead Day at Caritas that Wednesday because this redhead was going to need it to survive her upcoming weekend.

Probably.

Actually, there was a good chance she'd need a lot more to survive this weekend, knowing her family, but...

"I know I don't drink much but I'm not sure that's how that's supposed to work," Rey said, glancing at the specials.

Summer glanced at the specials board, too, to reread it in case something happened where it changed or something.

"Not sure how what's supposed to work?" she asked, since of course it made perfect sense to her, she'd written it.

Total sense!

"Buying you one of your own shots?"

To that, Summer just grinned and shrugged a shoulder. "It's World Redhead Day," she said. "Apparently. So, you know, special occasion.

"The watermelon one's my favorite, by the way," she added, totally unrelated, really.

"How've you been, Rey?"

She felt like they hadn't really talked or anything since Annie's big Believe Expo blow out, and that was kind of a shame, really.

"I'm good. Busy." And maybe lining herself up to be busier. "What about you?"

And at least with Rey, Summer knew that there was a good chance that busy was actually a sincere answer and not, like, you know, what you just told people when you just didn't want to deal with them.

Summer made a miserable face, nose wrinkled, lip curled in distaste.

"I have to go camping with my family this weekend," she murmured in pitiful dismay.

Rey was always sincere. And easily findable in the same places every week, too.

"Oh. I'm sorry. Why?"

She didn't think camping sounded so bad but she'd also heard how Summer talked about her family.

Summer considered how best to answer that.

"Because my dad's grasping at straws for revelevence in the familial heirarchy and our therapist is enabling him," she decided.

Because, yeah. That was pretty much it in a nutshell.

"Also, Memorial Day, I guess."

Sure. That, too.

"Well... maybe it'll bring you all together?"

Look, she was trying. It was clearly difficult.

"That's definitely the idea behind it," Summer allowed, "but going about it when pretty much everyone else is against the idea except for one, maybe two?"

Because Beth, of course, had refused to comment on the situation and implicate herself either way.

"Not a good start."

"Oh," Rey said again, and realized, "I've got nothing."

Maybe everyone would come back alive?

Yes, that would be the best case scenario.

And, in this particular instance, it would at least turn out to be true. Or, at least, anyone important would make it through, with the only casualties being a few egos (which was par for the course), a good deal of mindless planet-human hybrid children......and God.

Like you do.

It was definitely going to be one of those weekends.

But since Summer had no idea yet just how In For It she was, she just sort of sighed and shrugged and shook her head. "That's fine," she said. "It can't be helped. But just in case, I want to let you know, it's been a real pleasure and an honor knowing you and working-slash-sometimes fighting beside you, Rey."

"You will be mourned," Rey assured her. "Hypothetically. Should it come to that."

Since when did anything around here work the way it was supposed to?

They hadn't spoken recently but Stark offered a small wave to Rey when he spotted her.

"How are you doing, Stark?" Rey asked with a smile.

"Back to regular size," Stark said. "So fine, now. Anakin shrank us."

Anakin was the worst that way.

"You?"

"Good. Traveling a lot. And suddenly I'm glad I couldn't make it to the park today," Rey realized.

"You're better off having missed it," Stark assured her. "There was...a lot of ridiculousness. Squirrel-sized ridiculousness. Good traveling?"

As opposed to the 'running away from things' sort.

"Yes. Going back and forth to my galaxy. Or different versions of that galaxy," Rey told him. "No bad reasons, at least."

"I've met people from other versions of mine," Stark said. "But never gone to one."

One version was sometimes more than enough.

"I'm glad it hasn't been for any bad reasons."

"Me too. I've never gone to another version of my galaxy yet, either. That's this weekend," Rey said. "Meeting people from them has gotten pretty normal, though."

"Finding people from mine happened a lot when I first got here. Not recently."

If he ever went home he might see people. But that would require going home.

"I hope it goes well."
