The Devil's Nest, Tuesday Night

"I've decided I actually liked your improvisation last week," Lucifer told Tiny. He had to raise his voice a bit over the sound of the movers putting down an even bigger water feature in the axe range.

Sure, Eric had the strength required to move it away again any time he liked, but it was the statement that mattered.

"Just for that," he added, "You can do the specials board while I rev up the best of metal piano, all right?"

And that was the story of why SWIMMING POOL AND OTHER COCONUT COCKTAILS NOW 30 PERCENT OFF was the special tonight.

It was far too hot to be walking around town much, even as the sun was setting, but he needed to unwind a bit after working all day on his current project going on back at the shop. Dwight made his way to The Devil's Nest and walked in, after looking at the sign out front and being quite intrigued.

"Tiny piqued my interest, so it's a Swimming Pool Cocktail tonight. How are things?" Dwight said as he joined Lucifer at the Piano.

Lucifer looked up from the piano as soon as he noticed someone approaching, and--

Aw, it wasn't Duke come to lean against the piano again. Sigh.

"Tiny's still feeling very beachy," he said. "And apparently an overabundance of coconuts just materialized over the weekend."

"Well tis the season for beachy and tropical. And I guess if life hands you coconuts you make fruity cocktails."

"Very boozy ones," Lucifer agreed. "Not the most sophisticated, but Tiny did help inspire me last week, so there's that."

He waved his glass in the direction of the new water feature.

"I saw that when I came in. Very impressive must say" Dwight said giving the water feature another look over. "Permanent feature or just for the summer?"

"Oh, I suspect Eric is going to move it by the end of the week," Lucifer said. "If it were up to me, it'd be there indefinitely."

"Maybe can talk him into making it a regular reoccurring feature. Little bit of the tropic vibe all year long."

"No, he's far too attached to the axe range," Lucifer said, taking a sip of his drink. "I'm still not sure whether it's the Viking or the vampire in him, frankly."

It was the 'wanting to vex Lucifer' thing combined with the 'why does Lucifer keep vexing me' thing, actually.

"Well probably a little of both. I mean you can't ever really get that outdoorsman vibe out of someone. We outdoorsmen always love our axes, and toys and... well.. usually guns" Dwight said with a chuckle.

"Ugh," Lucifer said, "Lumberjacks."

"Not too fond of the outdoors huh?" Dwight said with a smirk, knowing good and well what the answer to that question was.

"Why on Earth would I want to hang out in the woods with the bugs and the mud?" Lucifer muttered. "Bad enough Duke likes to go oystering."

His partners had both gone out on repeated camping trips and he had not gone along. There was not a glamp glampy enough.

"Guess for some of us it is as much a part of who we are as suits, fancy shoes, and expensive wine is for you" Dwight said simply. "Some people like getting up close and personal with nature. Not for everyone though, obviously."

"Yes, I know, I'm dating two of them and they're clearly both out of their minds."

"And yet you stay and put up with it" Dwight said simply. "That says a lot."

Lucifer nodded. "Like that I have infinite patience with their quirky habits," he said, taking a sip of his drink. "But I suppose the more power to you if you're into that sort of thing."

"That... and the fact that they have patience with those quirky habits of your own. Shows they care. It's a good thing" Dwight said reassuringly. "Not everyone can find that kind of relationship. And you have two people who look at you the same way you look at them. That is a rare and wonderful thing really."

There was a definite frown forming on Lucifer's brow.

"Right," he said, waving a hand at Dwight's face. "How are you from Haven and also like this?"

"By this you mean my amazing rugged looks? Or the fact that I have a fairly sensible head on my shoulders?" Dwight asked with a smirk.

"No, apparently capable of being earnestly sentimental at strangers, like some kind of untraumatized Hallmark-card," said Lucifer, who knew Duke and had heard stories about Nathan and Audrey. All of whom sounded too emotionally stunted for that.

"Guess being the go-to guy for so long kinda makes it a necessity. Someone has to be the level headed one. You learn to adapt and adjust to and put on whatever front is needed in order to get by." Dwight looked at Lucifer for a moment.... Lucifer of all people should know that just because someone looks and sounds fine does not in fact mean they are fine.

"It's still weird," Lucifer informed him.

His relationship with clarity about other people's emotions was best described as 'on-again, off-again'.

"Weirdness keeps it interesting" Dwight said simply. "Though I can see how human emotions would be something weird and vexing to untangle having no prior experience with it."

Lord knew he had gone through enough of a learning curve of his own over the years. He could only imagine what it was like trying to figure it all out from an outside vantage point.

"Dad did make you lot messy."

Lucifer, you had not a leg to stand on.

"yeah human charm... trust me, not all of us are thrilled with it. We just kind of learn to live with it the best we can and make changes to what we are able to. Well some of us... some cant quite figure out a balance and end up.... well a certain other Havenite we know..."
