There were plants in the bar today.

Apparently Tino had taken up a new gardening hobby and so there were plants all over the place. And his place was filled so that meant they had to come down here?

Anyway if anyone came in today you'd be asked to place your bets on how long these things would last.

"Redecorating?"

Because obviously Rosa was going to comment on the abundance of flora in the bar as she settled into her seat, looking like she wasn't sure if she approved of this or not.

"Tino's trying out a new hobby," Kitty explained, with a face that said clearly how she thought that was gonna work out.

And that answer definitely swayed Rosa on how she felt about it, her face almost immediately mirroring Kitty's.

"Aren't hobbies things you do outside of work?" asked the woman who spent all day yesterday watching movies in her office.

"Oh, they are, and those hobbies have apparently spiraled down from upstairs."

Just imagine what a jungle that had to be.

See, and here Rosa would have thought anywhere that housed Tino would be much more of a swamp.

"That's probably a good sign that he might need an intervention," she decided, although she wasn't exactly about to volunteer to kick start it. "Who even needs that many plants?"

"No one," Kitty nodded. "I'm giving it two weeks."

"That long?" asked Rosa, who, on second thought, really wasn't that surprised that Kitty might have more faith in a person than she did...

...or more faith in the persistence of something annoying.

She considered a few of the nearest plants.

"Think he'd notice if I took some?"

It wasn't theft, it was damage control!

"I'm not encouraging it," Kitty said slowly, "but it would be an experiment if you tried."

Rosa weighed that answer carefully while staring down a fern.

"We'll see how I feel about it after a few beers," she decided

So guess who was definitely going home with a few new plants that evening!

"Just remember you have to carry them," Kitty told her, but she'd go and get a beer.

"Not necessarily," Rosa countered mildly. "I could get Tightpants to carry them."

Would it be difficult to web-sling plants? Maybe they'd find out!

"It would give you an accomplice, though," Kitty pointed out.

Jessica had been doing a lot of drinking and working from her apartment lately. And after some of the judgemental looks she got from a squirrel the day before, she decided to shower and try and participate in some human interaction.

Instead she found the bar with plans.

She gave the fern a judgemental look before nodding at Kitty in greeting. "Is this a thing or is it something I can ignore safely?"

"Yes, both," Kitty answered. "It's an avoidable thing."

"Good."

And with that she shoved the fern down to the end of the bar. "I'll have a bourbon and whatever uplifting thoughts you might have."

"The bourbon I can do," Kitty said, grabbing a glass. "Why uplifting thoughts?"

Jessica shrugged. "I'm cynical and figured you'd have something better to drink to than just getting shitfaced?" she offered.

"Oh, I can do that," Kitty said as she poured and then slid the drink over. "To temporary normalcy?"

Till tomorrow anyway.

“No matter how short lived,” Jessica said accepting the drink with a sigh. “And I thought my New York was weird and unnerving. “

"All New Yorks are weird and unnerving, at least. Some just also have supernatural stuff attached," Kitty said lightly.

"That'd be a new one," Irene noted by way of greeting, raising her drink at Jessica. "Plants overtaking the bar. D'you suppose they'd be alcoholic plants, either naturally or by means of growing in a bar, in that case?"

Jessica eyed the woman up and down warily. "That a bunch of fandom bullshit I don't want to think about," she replied. "There's only a limited supply of alcohol on the island and I have enough issues sharing it with squirrels and raccoons."

She paused for a moment before adding: "I don't know you."

Which is about as close to "Hello new person. Welcome to the island" as you are going to get with Jessica.

"I don't know you, either," Irene noted with a little smile, before adding, "Are you very scared of talking to strangers?"

That was what you got for a non-standard response, Jessica: an enigmatic, flirty one in reply.

That got Irene another wary and suspicious look.

"Not scared of strangers in particular," Jessica said with a shrug. "Unless there's a reason to."

She signaled Tino and had him get a refill of drinks for both herself and Irene.

"Jessica Jones."

"Irene Adler," she replied with an appreciative nod towards that gesture. "Newly returned to Fandom after a six-year absence. There -- now we're not strangers."

Neatly just setting aside the issue of whether there was a reason to be afraid of Irene.

(There wasn't, really. But she loved it when people thought there was.)

"I'm not sure this is the best environment for these," Irene suggested when she found her way to the bar, giving the plants a curious once over as she took a dainty seat on the barstool. "Not that I've any kind of a green thumb."

Maybe bar lighting was perfect for plants. She had no idea.

"Really, I'd bet Tino doesn't either, but we're just going to see what happens on this one," Kitty told her.

"Is he the horticulturalist, then?" Irene asked with an amused raise of her eyebrow. "It's an experiment, Kitty, clearly. For science."

She could make some guesses about the outcome, too.

"If it makes you feel better to say that, sure," Kitty grinned. "I kind of pegged him as a skeevy growhouse kind of guy but what do I know."

"Wrong sorts of plants, I think, but he might be keeping those upstairs," Irene noted with a conspiratorial wink. "He can be a skeevy growhouse scientist. Though this is sort of a fun little temporary change."

"I'm betting it lasts two weeks," Kitty told her. "Then the science might run out."

"That's generous of you," Irene observed. "I'd figure he'd find a new scientific pursuit within the week. Poor plants don't really deserve it, though."

Irene was going to end up taking at least one home, yes.

"They don't. I feel like these are going to get watered by me, for instance," Kitty said. "I can't do anything for the ones upstairs."

Not that she couldn't get up there. But that would mean seeing Tino's apartment.

Dwight froze as he stepped inside, glancing around at the abundance of vegetation in the bar.

"New theme for the week?" he asked as he walked up to the bar and took a seat.

"Tino's decided he likes greenery," Kitty explained.

Dwight nodded slowly. "Well, considering it is Fandom, I guess there are a lot worse things it could be."

"They could come to life," Kitty said vaguely.

"Well, it doesn't look like any of them are carnivorous... so we should be safe if that happens...." Dwight said, eyeing the closest plant.

Maybe. Hopefully. It was Fandom after all.

"We're probably safe," Kitty mused. "At least we could probably just... move ourselves away from them."

This wasn't an abnormal conversation topic for her.
