Groovy Tunes; Thursday [10/19].
Maybe it was just because she lived with someone like Lucille now, but when Tisarwat came into the shop to find that the stereo seemed stuck on playing a lot of dark, broody, atmospheric music today, she was kind of digging it. She didn't really understand a lot of the holidays on this planet, but it almost put her in a mood to decorate the store a little bit more like she'd seen other places doing, and it was just putting her into a great mood to just curl up with some tea and some of those old darkly romantic books that her roommate was so fond of.
Until, of course, those moments when the soft, atmospheric music cut out with either a loud, blood-curdling scream or a record scratch or shattered glass and went on like that for a few minutes before returning to the nicer stuff.
Tisarwat was going to go through a lot of tea today from when she kept spilling it as she jumped in startled fright, and she was absolutely avoiding handling anything more delicate after accidentally dropping and smashing a few records and CDs when it happened.
Glowering at the stereo afterwards didn't help any, but it did make her feel slightly better, especially when she felt it was doing it on purpose whenever she went to go have a sip or do some actual work around here.
Groovy Tunes is open!

"Tisarwat," she greeted, then paused. "This is a bit gloomy."
no subject
"The stereo here has a mind of its own," she said, a bit dryly, because, well...part of her did always wonder if this apparent AI in the sound system had anything to do with the influence of the previous owner... "And I guess it's just already in the mood for Halloween. Fair warning, though," she added, as she almost instinctually reached for her flask, "it's also been randomly throwing in screams and screeches that are..."
She poured some tea into a cup.
"Jarring."
She offered out the cup to Seivarden.
"Tea?"
no subject
As if the stereo was trying to make her drop the cup there was a sudden screech, but Seivarden managed just to spill some tea on her gloves.
"Aatr's tits, how do you put up with that?"
no subject
"One of the perks of the job, I guess," she said, pouring herself her own tea now that hse figured she had at least a few minutes before she needed to start worrying about her own timely musical interruption and tea spillage. "I tried just unplugging the thing, but the silence is actually worse. Besides, I do like the music when it isn't screaming or screeching, and it's infrequent enough..."
She sipped (while she still could) and promptly changed the subject.
"So how was your trip? Boston, right?"
no subject
She took a sip of tea before continuing to the subject that was the reason for the visit.
"Have you ever heard of an event called the Boston tea party?"
no subject
"No, I haven't," she said, only imagining what sort of event it might be with the context she had and thinking she may have been more proactive about sneaking onto the trip if she'd know there would be tea parties. "Did you get to go to one? How was it?"
Terrible, she hoped, if she didn't get to go! And hopefully, it being terrible was the reason Seivarden was here, so that she could complain to the one person who would appreciate the misery she could only assume would come from this country's idea of a tea party.

"It happened over two hundred years ago. As a protest against the ruler the locals threw all the tea into the sea."
She paused, just waiting for Tisarwat's reaction.
no subject
"Into...the sea?" she asked. "As in....the ocean?"
no subject
There was a dramatic pause.
"They re-enacted the event. Every day. With fake tea, admittedly, but still. Possibly because they didn't want to kill the fish."
That last part probably wasn't completely true, but it added to the story.
no subject
In fact...
"So...they threw tea," she said, slowly, "into the ocean....as a protest?"
The very Anaander part of her brain twitched with the determination that there wouldn't have been a Boston left if she had been in charge after a stunt like that.
"Was the tea just not very good?" she asked, while the Tisarwat part of her brain just grasped around for any sort of logic in this.
She could understand if it was bad tea.
Exceptionally bad tea. Like maybe they were protesting an insult in having being served such terrible tea...?
no subject
She hadn't paid much attention to the details, because throwing tea into the ocean was enough.

"Just when I think I might start understanding this planet," she murmured before taking a sip, "it turns out I don't get it all. What a terrible waste of tea! Surely they could have found a better way than just destroying it so no one could have it!"
