Groovy Tunes; Tuesday [11/09].
Things were pretty quiet in the store that day....things were usually pretty quiet in the store, and, really, around here, Tisarwat was going to count that as a very, very good thing. She only had a few managerial tasks to take care of and she got them out of the way swiftly, because she was kind of feeling compelled to spend the rest of her shift getting back to picking at a guitar to spill the space in between customers.
She hadn't been practicing as much as she probably should have, but it didn't take her long to get warmed up and to start experimenting around with some riffs. As far as instruments being played so intimately with one's hands, the guitar almost seemed a little more obscene than the piana, but there was still something about it that she enjoyed, so she kept at it.
Not that she ever expected guitar would be a skill that would ever actually be useful if she ever managed to get back to the Radch to stay, but who knew? A bizarre and quirky talent like that could make for an interesting stir back home, and, if anything, she was certain that Breq could only appreciate more musical knowledge among her crew.
And a guitar could definitely be loud enough to cover up some of her singing...
...what?

"Well, looks like I chose the right day to come by" he said, giving Tisarwat a smile. "I'm not sure if we have ever been properly introduced. I'm Dwight."
no subject
"Don't let the guitar fool you into thinking I'm any kind of expert, Dwight," she warned him, but in a warm sort of self-depricating teasing way. "I'm still kind of a novice, but I'm working my way there. Not sure how much help I can be, but I can try."
With that, she lifted the guitar off herself to set it aside so she could be fully attentive to the potential customer.
"And my name's Tisarwat," she added, with a nod. "It's nice to meet you. Would you like some tea?"
no subject
He paused a moment at the offer of tea. "Ya know what, tea sounds really good. Thank you, Tisarwat."

"Actually," she realized, "I think I have seen you around. You're in the community center cooking class with me, aren't you?"
The one she rarely ever actually pinged into, cough coughHe was the one who didn't seem to be trying to burn them all to a crisp every week.

"Ah yes, the class. I thought you looked familiar but.. small island and all. But yes I am in the cooking class... ding my best to add at least something other than frozen dinners, mac n cheese, and cake to my 'things I can make without burning the apartment down' list."
And yeah, he wasn't good.... he made no claims to be, but at least he had yet to start a fire in class. So that was a perk. Right?
Dwight took another drink of the tea and nodded thoughtfully. "That is a unique flavor profile. What kind of tea is that, if I may ask?"
no subject
"It's a nice earthy Assam," she offered, "with some hints of cinnamon and plum. I figured it suited the season nicely, but the plum makes it a little different from all the chai that seem popular this time of year.
"I'm afraid a good cup of tea is the extend of my ability to make anything palatable," she added, her smile going modest. "That, I think, is the biggest lesson I've picked up in that class so far. I might finally be ready to accept my fate."

Dwight considered the cooking class for a moment and what Tisarwat said. "Well not all of us can be Ignis... There's a reason they make frozen dinners. So people like us don't starve," he added with a grin.

Apparently, a microwave managed to exist in a space that could stymie those who found its technology quite advanced and those who found it archaic and quaint!
"But enough about our failures in the culinary arts," she said, pouring herself a fresh cup of tea now, too, "especially with me overdue for a lunch break probably. What brings you in today, Dwight?"

But she considered the guitars a moment longer before cocking her head in a direction and then following it to lead the way. "We've got plenty of stock, though. I'll show you."

He had faced a number of bizarre and crazy Troubles back home in Haven... but snow attacking people? That was something new, even for him. He stood and followed her towards the guitar section of the store, waiting for her to elaborate.

"Everything is a thing here," she pointed out.

So now look whose turn it was to wait for elaboration.
