Some of the flamingos who had performed on the pond earlier that day had moved their act over to the stage at Caritas, and Summer was trying to find a lot of things to do, because Tino kept trying to tell her about his Christmas plans, but she did not care.

So, overall, really, it felt like sort of a very average, typical, nothing really much to say about it kind of night at Cartias, and that was okay.

"We'll start there then," Steven said. "Go for one of the most traditional and see how many we feel like watching after. There's shorter ones as well, little shows for children and the like. We can add those in as needed."

"Suppose this means we've moved tonight from my place to yours," Watts mused. He did enjoy the moving pictures, but not often enough to merit a television of his own.

(Unlike the coffee machine, which was sure to save him many a morning where he'd rather not get dressed and face the world just yet, thank you Marc.)

"Don't mind it," Steven said. "Love having you in my place. You, me, blanket on the couch. Raphael can watch the fish long as he likes."

Because obviously the cat was coming over too.

"He does love those fish," Watts said with a fond little smile.

"Think it's like his own little movie screen," Steven said. "Watching them go about. So you see? Good all around. Nobody put out at all by it."

"I don't know what it is I've done to deserve someone as good to me as you are," Watts said. "But I'm glad to have done it."

Steven reached up to brush at a lock of Llewellyn's hair. "You encouraged him to be foolish."

"It's not often one can say it was a wise idea to encourage foolishness," Watts said with a little smile. "I'm glad we can."

"There's no one else I'd rather be a fool with," Steven said. He went to give Llewellyn's hand another squeeze. "No one else who makes me feel valuable as I am."

"Can't say I'm sorry that it's me and not anyone else," Watts confessed. "But that no one else could see you for the gift you are..." he tsked.

"You had the harder version as well," Steven said. They were in public so Steven went with, "having to accept all of me."

"Ah, but that too has worked in my favor," Watts pointed out. "As it's also gained me a good friend I might not have made otherwise."

For all that they were similar in some ways, he and Marc were very, very different people, after all.

Steven looked touched at that explanation. "Never thought about it that way. It being a benefit."

“Then it’s a good thing you’ve me around to tell you so,” Watts pointed out.

"There's many good reasons you're around, Llewellyn Watts," Steven told him with a smile. "But no, you're right. I can't help thinking about all the things you give up because of me. Not as easy imagining what you get."

“Someone who offered to spend the longest night of the year with me simply because they know I don’t care for the dark,” Watts said, leaning in to press a very quick kiss to Steven’s cheek. “Among many other things.”

"Someone who loves you with all his heart?" Steven said. "Even if you can't be with him all the time?"

Some day Steven would remember that for the most part every couple couldn't be together all the time. He was working on it, he was.

“He’s here, with me,” Watts said, taking Steven’s hand and placing it over his own heart. “Even when he’s not here with me.”

"Always," Steven said, pressing his hand gently to Llewellyn's chest. "Just as you're always in mine. And only you. No one else."
