Some of the flamingos who had performed on the pond earlier that day had moved their act over to the stage at Caritas, and Summer was trying to find a lot of things to do, because Tino kept trying to tell her about his Christmas plans, but she did not care.

So, overall, really, it felt like sort of a very average, typical, nothing really much to say about it kind of night at Cartias, and that was okay.

Rosa had very conveniently (and very handwavily) been out on the road for most of this last week on a case, and would be very glad to hear that that meant she'd managed to miss a whole thing, apparently, which just reminded that she needed to probably do that toward the end of each semester around here, because that was when things started to get real weird. But, either way, she was back now, and she trudged back into her office to drop off another set of tapes for Lester to transcribe (she'd already transcribed them for her own records, she'd just hate for him to get bored or anything).

She was also carrying with her a very large sack, not unlike a certain red-suited fat man might around this time of year. However, the very large sack slung over Rosa's shoulder was not filled with presents and gifts.

Well, they were sort of presents, but for a very specific recipient, and she took a moment to head upstairs to the apartment, where she checked in with Anna Pavlova for a few minutes before upending the bag and dumping an absolute deluge of shoes onto the living room floor.

"Go nuts," she said, and Anna Pavlova happily did just that, diving into the mountain of shoes and getting to work destroying them all.

How did Rosa get a big bag filled with various shoes? That was anyone's guess. Did at least one of those shoes still have a foot in it?

No, actually, but no one could blame you for thinking that.

Then Rosa went back downstairs and settled in at her desk, where she would maybe spend about ten minutes at her computer doing actual work before she just got bored and set up her dart board with 'terrible last minute gift ideas' and seeing what she'd land on for various people she actually liked enough to get gifts for.

'Twas four days 'til Christmas, and once more, Irene was modeling one of the more festive options on offer if you needed a last-minute lingerie-adjacent choice for a loved one. (Why she did not dress like this for the ugly jumper rager was anyone's guess, since this little number would have likely gone over even better than all those Swarovski crystals.)

In any case, she was running a number of sales on general merchandise, and as far as holiday items, she had theming as far as the eye could see. There were couple's bundles and stocking stuffers, and Irene herself was quite happily rearranging the anatomically-correct gingerbread person ornaments on her tree near the front, humming little carols to herself as she worked (and occasionally pondering covering up a bit, as it was a little chilly, but -- no, sod that, she was being festive!)

[open, and I don't have to tell you not to click any of that in front of, like, bosses and parents, right?]

Arthur had just been walking. Nothing terrible was going on, nothing nefarious was lurking, and he needed the exercise so he could stop being the second-skinniest Englishman on the island.

Then John had spotted the birds. Flamingos, from his description, though whatever they were doing seemed very...non-bird-like.

Honestly, Arthur would have been happy to finish the walk and go home.

Jesus fucking Christ, Arthur, would it kill you to let me watch something interesting?

So Arthur was going to be just sitting bored on a park bench for a while. Maybe he should figure out if there was a way to use a phone blind.

... right, so the store had a ball pit full of ornaments that had not been there yesterday, or any other day in as long as Steph had been running the place.

They were gaming themed ornaments, granted, because of course they were, but the ball pit was right in the middle of the first floor game lounge and neither Little Bot nor Saffron was at all a fan of this sudden change. (You could tell from the way Little Bot would beep in distress every time he had to go around it, and how every now and then Saffron would dig an ornament out of the ball pit, hiss at it, and then bat it very scornfully back into the pit.)

Steph put up a sign at the front counter: No charge for the ball pit, knock yourselves out! (Not literally. Please.) She'd thought about it, since it was in the paid gaming area, but also not charging for it felt like a nice little way to assuage some of her weird feelings about running a store during the most rampantly capitalistic time of the year in her part of the world.

Fiddling around with one of the games from the Kickstarter showcase helped too, actually.
