Parents Weekend Meet & Greet, Friday

It was a crisp yet none-too-chilly September afternoon in the Park, the weather as always perfectly nice to fit the island's general ideas about what these events would be like.

The theme in the park seemed adorably retro, perhaps best seen in the massive banner that hung above:

Annie was, unsurprisingly, posted up near the food. Kimiko had found her fairly quickly, so while Annie was steadily working her way through a stacked plate, she was also pausing to answer the occasional question or comment being held up for her on the other woman's phone.

"Jitter Bean's are better," she offered, taking note of Kimiko's drink with a knowing, and yet also transparently jealous look.

"You look different," Stephen joked as he approached Annie. "I can't quite put my finger on it, but something is definitely different."

"I've gotten a few haircuts since then," Annie told him with a serious face that she could only maintain for about three whole seconds before her expression widened into a smile. "It's probably that."

Definitely not the 'oh, thank god, another medical doctor is on the island just in case' level of pregnant.

"How've you been, Stephen?"

"Good. Everything is calm, somehow," Stephen said with a short laugh. "How are you? Big day is coming soon, right?"

"We're due at the end of October," Annie confirmed, giving her belly a little pat. "Wouldn't, like, especially mind if they decided to show up a little sooner, though."

She had been pregnant forever, it felt like. Forever.

"But I'm good," she added. "Babies are healthy, too. And it's been quiet here, too, which is like great for me."

Last year's adventure would have been very different in her current condition.

"Good," Stephen said with a tight smile. He wasn't a smiler, okay? He was doing his best. "Wanda assured me of the same thing, but it's good to hear it from you too."

Since he now had "never believe anything Wanda Maximoff says" as a life rule, no matter if they were friendly now.

The tightness of his smile just made Annie's grin grow, though it took on a slightly wry quality as she thought about what he said.

"I might have my hands a little full these days, but I haven't forgotten your phone number isn't just for awesome cape memes, promise," she replied, holding up a pair of fingers in a scout's promise to lighten the comment.

It wasn't a betrayal to talk about Wanda behind her back like this, right? It was like...sponsorship. They were looking out.

"Good," he said, a slight look of relief on his face. They had barely made it out the last time Wanda decided to go on an adventure. "She looks good. Much better than the last time I saw her."

"She's doing really good," Annie assured him, effusive and sincere. "We're doing good, surprisingly enough. Did she introduce you to Jeff yet?"

The state of the Magic Box spoke better of Wanda's state than Annie's praise ever could, really.

"Is that like a boyfriend or something?" Because he and Wanda didn't have that kind of friendship, Annie.

"More of a coworker," Annie replied. "I'm sure you'll run into him. He's pretty tall, hard to miss."

Ha ha ha. Sometimes you had to make your own fun.

"And like maybe she can get you a deal on, like, eye of newt or whatever."

"You know that's not really a thing, right?" Stephen asked, lifting an eyebrow. "...at least I don't think so."

His magic was more of the wavy arm kind.

"Maybe not for you," Annie replied cheerfully, selecting a cider donut to break apart and start working on. "But I bet you a dollar someone around here could use some eye of newt in their magic."

After all, Stephen, you'd both once been paint for a few seconds. Anything was possible!

"And that would be a person I'd avoid." Shocking, really. "I don't need anymore weirdness. I'm still trying to block out the fact that Tony Stark and Steve Rogers are a couple floors above Wanda's guest room. Married."

"Oh, did you not know that?" Annie asked, knowing full well that this was probably kind of a doozy on the surprise scale but playing innocent. "They have a really cute dog, too. Is that not...like, how they were when you guys were all teamed up? Weird. There's a couple other people from your universe here, too, so don't like, be startled if you get recognized."

Though that would be unrelated to any elegant brunette ladies who might stare longingly at him all weekend. That was a different thing. Don't worry about that, either.

"Well they're not around anymore where I'm from," Stephen said bluntly. "But when they were around they were more like co-leaders who bickered a lot. But I guess that can turn into romance, even if it makes me want to throw up in my mouth."

He looked around, trying to see if there was anybody else familiar. "After our little adventure into the multiverse I think I'm suitably prepared for any faces that may or may not recognize me."

"I know there were a couple of kids who recognized Wanda last year," Annie offered, also glancing around. "There's also a whole thing where you might look like someone who isn't Stephen Strange in someone's universe. I apparently look like a murder victim named Hope in yours, fun fact."

Or, at least, a version of his universe.

"I hope it wasn't the murderer that recognized you." Though he knew that she could handle herself, even in her current, worryingly pregnant, condition.
