Blame it on the horses. Blame it on her class earlier that day. But Summer was spending an awful lot of time musing over how convenient a Tino-specific shrink ray might be, almost to the point where she was contemplating texting her ex to see if he might be able to hook her up with something like that.

It wasn't even as if he was doing anything particular terrible or annoying that evening, either. She was just...thinking it. But...really....could anyone blame her?

"You look different out of a bathrobe," Liliana greeted with a smile of amusement.

Bathrobe? Was that some kind of dig at--

Oh, right.

Atton looked up at her. "Yeah, I'm usually more fashionable," he said. "Haven't managed to get the Temple to shape up yet, though."

"I do believe the fashions of most religions are generally found to be lacking," Liliana said. "Probably to make sure we spent more time in consideration of the divine. I know my cleric vestments tended towards linen shifts and the like. Though, mine was a holy order of healing during a war, so whatever I was wearing usually ended covered in filth as it was."

Oh, was sober!Liliana going to have a field day remembering everything tipsy!Liliana had taken it upon herself to share with near-strangers.

"Eugh," Atton said sympathetically. "Sounds like the kind of religion that doesn't even involve anything fun, like actually beating up bad guys."

"No, actually fighting the Cabal was for my father and the soldiers under his command," Liliana said. "The Forward Order was more about the teachings of the Blessed Serra, healing, and the importance of chastity, though, the latter might have been specifically geared towards me." She paused to take another drink of her sparkler. "I paid attention to the healing, at least."

Atton sipped his own very much non-alcoholic sparkler. "Seems boring," he said. "And full of capital letters. What is it with those and religious organisations, anyway?"

"How else are they going to impress their importance on the masses, darling?" Liliana asked. "The more capital letters you can fit in, the more important you must be."

So sayeth Liliana Vess, Death's Majesty.

"Maybe I should get in on that racket," Atton mused. "Jedi Master Atton Rand, Kicker of Asses, Lightsaber Badass, Order of the Handsome, Dark and Sarcastic..."

"Just be sure to have someone else give you the epithets," Liliana said. "Or at least have other people believe you did. Otherwise it would be gauche."

"Oh no, can't be gauche," Atton droned. "Whatever will the neighbors think."

"That you don't deserve all your fancy capital letters," Liliana said, with a truly tragic expression.

"This is starting to sound like too much effort for too little gain to me," Atton said.

"Keep saying stuff like that, and I might almost start to think you don't respect religions' capital letters!"

"I don't," Atton offered. "If that clarifies anything."

"I'm terribly shocked to have discovered this," she deadpanned.

"I'm sorry. I'll work on being a clearer communicator next time," Atton said.

"Please," Liliana said. "You really presented yourself as a True Believer right then."

Look! Capital letters!

Atton snorted. Loudly. "Aw, space," he said, "That statement is going to haunt me in my nightmares. Might make for a nice change of pace from the regular nightmares."

Liliana laughed, warm and low. "Glad to be of service," she said. "Liliana Vess, Purveyor of New Nightmares has a lovely ring to it."

Atton snickered. "You'd make a killing with veterans," he said. "'I'll replace your shitty flashbacks with something marginally more tolerable'."
