First Responder's Memorial Day Barbecue - Fire Station and Selkie Lake, Monday

The firehouse was all ready for guests, cleaned as much as humanly possible and organized within an inch of its life. Which meant it was time for people to come in and mess all that up.

But, you know. Lovingly.

And just across the way at Selkie Lake, the food and the general mingling place was all set up for people. Because it was time for the First Responder's Memorial Day Barbecue!

There really wasn't too much to see, but it was still an attempt at a fire engine and the usual set up beyond that. But you can get an adorable hat out of the deal. Indeed, it would be hard to leave without one. They have just so many.

The usual firefighter gear was all laid out for people to test if they could get dressed in it as fast as a real firefighter. After that, you can see how well you'd do at carrying all that equipment up a ladder!

Where there were a number of squirt guns and water balloons at the ready for people should they feel the need. You know. For reasons.

Look, Bucky ordered them and now you get to deal with that.

The usual grilled foods, plus the firehouse staple of chili at the ready to be put into some walking tacos. Because who didn't love a ridiculous midwestern classic like that? There were also a wide variety of drinks, but remember that this is a party set up with the cops. Don't drink underage. They'll be so disappointed in your idiocy.

The contribution of the local police force! Strap on a set and try to drive a rickshaw. Yes, a raccoon was already in the lake. Do not let this deter you!*

Shirtless firefighters against police officers! You're welcome. Feel free to pick a side to cheer for.

It's a dreary morning here omg.

Yeah there wasn't much to see, but look at how clean everything was! It was almost like that was their main job!

Anyway, Buck would be by the reception desk, already wearing a plastic hat.

Diego was at the food table, filling his own plate and also picking out soft foods he could cut up into small pieces to see if Maggie and Ben would eat it.

It was baby-led weaning time, everyone.

And, no, he was not giving them chili.

Steve was at the grill because he was a control freak like that, but he was also sporting a plastic fire hat and new ink along his shirtless lower back to show he wasn't that serious.

Except he was. If you ordered a steak well-done, he'll be tempted to arrest you for crimes against food.

Annie would have likely been here with the kids even if their dad wasn't involved in an important shirtless tug-o-war later, but given that he was, it was all the more important that they come to support him as a family!

Even if their son was, you know, traitorously rooting for the babysitters. (Maggie appeared to mostly be rooting for bees, and also taking an early stance on dresses with pockets.)

In any case, Annie had found herself a spot to spread out a blanket on the grass and sit with the babies and a beer for herself, alternating between soothing Maggie (who was still not sure about grass) and fixing Ben's shirt.

Lucy wasn't quite sure what was being celebrated today -- she'd have to do a little research on which war was being memorialized here, and all that -- but she did recognize infectious community spirit when she saw it! And celebrating public safety workers seemed like an incredibly noble cause to her, too, so she was here and people-watching and hesitantly helping herself to some food and a soda while she was at it.

Oh, like Yukari was going to miss a barbecue.

Did she have a class she should actually be teaching right now? Probably! Maybe! It was a holiday, right? Look, she wasn't from around here, she didn't know how it worked, but she was pretty sure anyone showing up to class today instead of going to a free barbecue was just a big nerd, anyway, and, quite frankly, not someone she was interested in associating with, much less teaching.

Did Kamala take a tour of the firehouse just so she could wear the hat all day?

Yes she did.

After a tour of the firehouse, Kamala was still wearing the souvenir hat and had a squirt gun ready to defend herself.

Danny was keeping an eye on the beer goggles area in case another raccoon ended up in the lake. Which was sadly a real possibility here.

Look, Fandom gonna Fandom.

Kitty thought this would be a fun thing to bring Lexi to, and she was right!

Because she was going to be doing her best to keep her kid from going for the squirt guns and water balloons that she clearly fully intended on abusing.

This would of course end in Kitty finally giving up and going home with awkward water spots on her clothes if she didn't phase at the right time but that was a problem for later.

Dean was uncharacteristically dressed in a plain t-shirt and cargo shorts today. He was not so much mingling as resting in a lounging folding beach chair he had brought with him. Next to the chair was a cooler of beer and on the other side was another empty beach chair.

With sunglasses on and a beer in his hand, Dean was ready to simply enjoy the day.

And watch that raccoon in the middle of the lake with goggles on.

"Need a burger?" Steve asked with a grin.

Steve gave her a wave from the grill. "Need anything else?"

As one of the first responders in question, Watts was, naturally, here. Although for the moment still dressed in his typical three-piece suit. Would that change by the time the tug of war got started? Perhaps!

"Do you see a good spot to settle in?" he asked Steven, who was ~~lightly modded~~ with him.

"Somewhere in the shade, perhaps?" Steven asked. He didn't want Llewellyn risking a sunburn after all.

As big as her issues with cops was these days, Rosa was still a member of the Nine-Nine family, and, as such, was therefor obligated to show up here today, not necessarily in support of her former Trooper coworkers so much as root against the firefighters.

Which was nothing personal, she barely knew any of them (and definitely preferred to keep it that way). It was just....a thing, alright? Sometimes, we were all bound by laws greater than ourselves.
