Caritas- Tuesday

Kitty would have thought she'd have escaped the weirdness today, until she got to work and started setting up for the day.

"Closing time, one last call for alcohol
So, finish your whiskey or beer
Closing time, you don't have to go home
But you can't stay here

She got through the whole song and immediately stopped what she was doing. Maybe she didn't want to be at work today? Just maybe?

"See, showing up to work on song day is your first mistake," Jack said, wandering into the bar.

"In fairness, I didn't know," she said with a sigh. "Hey. Been a while."

"Hey," Jack said, grabbing a seat by the bar. "If it helps, my singing voice doesn't completely suck, and if either of us bursts into something melodramatic, I'll play it off as a joke."

"And then we never speak of it again, ever?" Not that she saw him enough for that to be an issue, but it was still good to get that stated.

"Well, I might bring it up at your funeral," Jack offered. "I think that's about the fairest deal you can expect from me."

"That's fine, I promise not to care then," she said. "What can I get you?"

"One of those fancy non-alcoholic lemonades," Jack said, "And a hopefully nonmusical update on how you're doing."

[throughaphase]

"On it," she said, grabbing a glass. "I've been okay. It's been mostly chill. Aside from teaching two classes again. What've you been up go?"

[suitably_heroic]

"I have to be really careful here before I start belting out some Alicia Keys," Jack said, watching her going about it. "Living in New York, spending a lot of time in bars, occasionally getting up on stage. So not really all that different than when I lived here."

And then swallowed back a 'round my hometoooooown that suddenly bubbled up in his throat.

"Except for how New York is extremely different," she said, setting down his drink.
