Fandom High Prom - Part I

City Hall is aglow with the light from the torches. Streamers in blue and yellow line the way for students towards the ballroom. Inside, hangings and other decorations represent the Lost Cities. A working volcano stands in Krakatoa's corner. Seven DVD players are projecting 3D images of the cities as well. And streamers, glitter, candles, balloons, and lights are everywhere.

Prom has begun.

"Swaying works." Alanna nodded and kind of flapped her arms, not really sure of where to put them.

He reached out and took her hands and put them on his shoulders. He then put his hands on her hips...only one really didn't feel like a hip.

"Is that a...?" Yep, definitely felt like it. "Sword?"

Alanna sighed. "Yes. My sword. Lightning. I should probably mention that everyone thinks I'm a boy because I'm training to be a Knight. Hence the sword."

Charlie raised his eyebrows. "A knight? That's...pretty hot." He grinned. "I mean cool. Very cool. So can you joust and all that stuff too?"

Alanna mock glared at Charlie at the hot comment but then grinned and actually relaxed. "I'm only a Squire right now. I've got oh, eight more months until I'm knighted. I can fence, that's what I'm best at. Yeah, we're taught jousting but we don't use it much. Mostly it's fencing and archery."

"That sounds like fun." He was definitely not considering 'Knight' as a potential job title. Nope. Nuh-uh. Not at all. "Are you gonna keep pretending to be a guy or show them up once you're knighted? You know, girl power."

Alanna groanned. "Once I'm knighted? I have no clue. I'd like to reveal that I'm a girl. I'd also like to keep my head. And it is fun, actually. When you're not in the middle of a war. But that was only once so yeah, not that bad. I miss my horse."

"Well if you ever need a quick escape from beheading, there's always Fandom."

Alanna laughed. "In no way is that my actual back-up plan. Pretty much in that many words. So what about you? Any future goals?"

"Graduate, travel the multiverse, see where it takes me. Nothing set in stone. I've got a long time to decide. For now I'm okay with being here."

"That...sounds a lot like my plan for when I get my shield. So little of my world is explored. I want to see it. I wanna run off, and have adventures and do all sorts of very much un-ladylike things." Alanna laughed. "How did we not meet before?"

He laughed. "Y'know, I was asking myself the same question."

Alanna shook her head and noticed something out of the corner of her eyes. "This lovely song is over and if you don't mind I'm going to run over and make sure the volcano isn't really going to explode."

"No problem. I promised a friend I'd save her a dance." They split up and Kawalsky went in search of Sam.
