Fandom High Prom - Part I

City Hall is aglow with the light from the torches. Streamers in blue and yellow line the way for students towards the ballroom. Inside, hangings and other decorations represent the Lost Cities. A working volcano stands in Krakatoa's corner. Seven DVD players are projecting 3D images of the cities as well. And streamers, glitter, candles, balloons, and lights are everywhere.

Prom has begun.

[ooc: Wait for the OCD threads or suffer my wrath. Done! But please wait for the music threads to go up before dancing. Prom II will be going up in about two hours. Later.]

"Another in a long line of strange things that I avoid writing home about," said Janet, laughing. "Oh, it was absolutely worth it. Are you having fun tonight?"

And no problem, BTW, I'm sure you had a million comment notifications.

"My parents must think I do nothing but hang out in the common room. Because that's all I can ever tell them about," Isabel said. "Explaining random slime attacks is difficult."

"I am having fun, I had a lovely dance with Hawkeye, and a dance with Jarod. Plus Xander, Bridge and I had dinner together."

"Hanging out in the common room and going to boring, ordinary classes is a very vital part of the high school experience," said Janet solemnly. "Random slime attacks, weetiny bunnies, and snow monsteers are nothing our legal guardians need to hear about. Personally, I never mention the fact that I have a vampire in the room next to mine."

"Good. It's always important to have fun at prom. Even if you're as distracted as me and forget about dinner." Janet grinned ruefully.

"Forget the vampire in the room next door, I haven't told my dad my roommate's a guy. That would have me pulled out of here and back home really fast," she said with a laugh. "Forget everything else."

"If you didn't eat then be careful when you hit the punch bowl. It's been okay so far. But later on? I'll be drinking the bottled water then. Stupid alien metabolism," she muttered.

"Sounds like your dad can give as many lectures as my Uncle George." Janet laughed. "I think we all have an unofficial pact of silence about the weirdness with regards to telling anyone back home. I mentioned the zombies to one of my friends and her reaction was--well, pretty funny, actually."

"I've been looking forward to the spiked punch, actually," said Janet, looking around for something to lean on. "You get drunk off a minimal amount of alcohol? That's fascinating, actually. But better than that tv show--what was it, Alien Nation Extraterrestrial Country? The one where the aliens get drunk off sour milk?"

"Exactly. Telling people who haven't experienced Fandom for themselves is a sure way to get people thinking you're nuts. I have enough to worry about with having a shrink poking around in my head."

Isabel's nose wrinkled. "And people think my tabasco habit is weird. Sour milk is just gross. But yes, the smallest sip of something alcoholic is the equivalent of doing multiple shots for me. So I never get to have any fun."
