Fandom High Prom - Part I

City Hall is aglow with the light from the torches. Streamers in blue and yellow line the way for students towards the ballroom. Inside, hangings and other decorations represent the Lost Cities. A working volcano stands in Krakatoa's corner. Seven DVD players are projecting 3D images of the cities as well. And streamers, glitter, candles, balloons, and lights are everywhere.

Prom has begun.

Hamlet reluctantly allows himself to be dragged out for the very first song he's danced to at FH.

"I don't think I know this song. Or how one dances in a group of three."

"It's easy," Rory sighed. "Watch what I do."

She demonstrated, complete with the hip swivel and hop in conclusion, and looked expectantly at them.

Hamlet just kind of stares in shock at Rory.

"What kind of thing was that?"

"The Macarena," she said helpfully.

He blinks.

"You'll have to remember that we're from Denmark and Outer Space respectively. I can't speak for Anakin, but I know that the song and that ... 'dance' never made it to where I live."

Anakin was blinking rapidly. "Yeah. Um. Not something I've ever seen before."

"Well, it's easy and fun," Rory said stubbornly. "So do it."

He sighs. "Must we? Is this some kind of American hazing ritual?"

"Yes, and if you don't I will make this face."

Rory pouted.

"Normally I'd need to be blackmailed by a pink bunny to do something like this," Anakin muttered to Hamlet.

Then he put out his arms.

Sullenly.

Hamlet rolled his eyes. Might as well just get this over with sooner instead of later.

He stuck out his arms one by one and then flipped them over.

Petulantly.

"Smile, or you're doing it wrong," Rory said, still pouting.

Anakin gave her a very, very small smile.

Then did the hip wiggle thing, blushing to his hair.

Hamlet gives something between a smile and a grimace, and then does the little hop & turn.

"This is so embarrassing..."

"No it isn't. Try it in a dress," Rory countered, dancing happily.

He smirks a little at that. "I suppose that would be worse. I can only imagine what trying to do this 'dance' would be like for someone in a very short skirt."

Arms out, touch the shoulders. Hey, this had kind of a pattern to it.

"The heel and dress combination is bad as it is. We should all be pleased that I am the epitome of grace," Rory said, flailing a little as she danced.

Anakin bit his lip to hide a smirk.

Shimmy, shimmy, hop.

He couldn't believe he was doing this.

"There needs to be singing, too," Rory said as she shimmied shinily.

Shimmy, shimmy, hop. Hey, there was a pretty good rhythm to this.

"You never specified anything about singing to this. And besides--" Shimmy, shimmy, hop. "--all of the words seem to be in Spanish."

"I'm hopping around and wiggling my ass," Anakin complained. "There will be no singing."

Rory made the sad face again. "Remind me to teach you to bunny hop."

"Does this have anything to do with a pie-loving klepto?" he asked, still doing the hand gestures like an idiot.

"Would that mean you'd have to steal things and eat pie while dancing?" asks Hamlet, still doing the ridiculous moves.

"You know, in Fandom, it would," Rory said thoughtfully - or as thoughtfully as one can while doing the Macarena. "But no, it's a dance kind of like this one. Sort of."
