Fandom High Prom - Part I

City Hall is aglow with the light from the torches. Streamers in blue and yellow line the way for students towards the ballroom. Inside, hangings and other decorations represent the Lost Cities. A working volcano stands in Krakatoa's corner. Seven DVD players are projecting 3D images of the cities as well. And streamers, glitter, candles, balloons, and lights are everywhere.

Prom has begun.

"This is great! Doesn't everyone look nice?" Zero grabbed two cups of punch and handed one to Peter. She scoffed traditions such as the boy getting the punch.

"There are other people here? I'd only noticed you," Peter said, trying to sound sweet. "And the weirdo photographer. And the cats. But none of them count."

"Thank you," he said, taking the punch. "It should still be okay to drink, right?"

"You're sweet." Zero sniffed her punch. "Should be. It's too early in the evening for spiking."

"I try," Peter said. "Well, this isn't raising any warning bells. Seems okay to try it." Peter took a sip. "I'm not loopy yet. I think it's safe."

"You can't get drunk off one sip," Zero said with a laugh. She took a cautious sip of her own. "Yeah, it's swerval. And tasty."

"You'd be surprised. People in my world tend to go to extremes," Peter said. "Then again, people in my world walk around with mechanical arms fused to them, so who am I to say anything? But, yes, definitely tasty. Whoever made it did well."

Zero considered dragging Peter off somewhere to associate freely, but didn't see any convenient dark corners. So she looked around for someone to compliment instead.
