Fandom High Prom - Part I

City Hall is aglow with the light from the torches. Streamers in blue and yellow line the way for students towards the ballroom. Inside, hangings and other decorations represent the Lost Cities. A working volcano stands in Krakatoa's corner. Seven DVD players are projecting 3D images of the cities as well. And streamers, glitter, candles, balloons, and lights are everywhere.

Prom has begun.

The photographer is suddenly circling them snapping shots. He waves his hand.

"Be interesting."

Pip shrugged and turned to Ivanova. "Quick, think of an interesting pose."

"Fine, leave it all to me," she muttered, thinking quickly. "I'd be the heroic knight and sweep you up in my arms but I might break a stiletto. And you know how I feel about my shoes."

"Yep," Pip said, sweeping Ivanova up into his arms. "More precious than life itself. In fact, if anyone tries to break them while we are here, I should probaly beat them with their own shoe."

"Okay, you two do 'conversational' really well." said the photographer snapping pictures like it was going out of style.

"Now give me 'anger'."

Ivanova eeped and clung to his neck, then tried to pretend she didn't eep because Ivanovas did not eep. She laughed. "As long as you don't beat them with my and get them all scuffed up and I would like to add in my defense that I am never this girly."

She glared at the photographer half-heartedly, still snickering too hard to get really angry.

"Yes! Very good! Yes! Yes! No! Yes!"

He tossed the camera aside. An assistant went flying after it.

"Done! Next!"

He wandered off.

Pip watched the photographer leave, still holding Ivanova. "He's a very strange man," Pip said. "And British, I think."

"Mm-hmm," Ivanova agreed absently, watching him go. And then realised that she was still cradled against Pip's chest. "Um, Pip?"

"Hmm? Oh!" Pip put Ivanova down. "Sorry 'bout that."

"No problem," Ivanova murmured, holding onto him until she got her feet back under her. Because, y'know, stilettos. "Those are going to be . . . interesting pictures."

"Oh, I dunno," Pip said. "I mean, we both look human. Hell, those will be the comparatively boring pictures."

"Whatever you say," she said cheerfully, looping her arm through his. "Now, I know you're supposed to ask, but I've had enough of being the damsel at the moment. Want to dance?"
