Fandom High Prom - Part I

City Hall is aglow with the light from the torches. Streamers in blue and yellow line the way for students towards the ballroom. Inside, hangings and other decorations represent the Lost Cities. A working volcano stands in Krakatoa's corner. Seven DVD players are projecting 3D images of the cities as well. And streamers, glitter, candles, balloons, and lights are everywhere.

Prom has begun.

And spin she did, taking small steps to help keep her balance and giggling along the way. What was it about being in a girl body and giggling?

Until she caught a heel on the trailing edge of her dress and hand to grab Nadia to stay upright.

And Nadia grabbed back, steadying her carefully. "Woah, you okay?" He grinned. "You can use one hand to lift the end of your skirt, and if you spin a little faster, it'll lift out of the way."

"I'm okay." Walter caught her balance and moved her hands back to Nadia's hand and waist.

She was also realizing that there was no chance that she'd be able to pull of a dance like the Schottische in these heels. She'd never had a low opinion of girls, but her opinion of girls was rising quite a lot.

"We can try that spin again when you're ready."

"Of course." He danced a few more steps, then, just to keep Walter on her toes, so to speak, dipped her.

Dipping in heels meant clinging. Which was purely unintentional. Really.

Nadia totally understands the need to cling.

He also totally appreciates it. Once Walter is back on her feet, he smiles. "Spin?"

"Okay." This time she's ready to catch the trailing edge of her gown and not fall on Nadia. She's also really enjoying herself, now that she's getting the hang of the heels as a challenge rather than an obstacle.

Nadia gently spun Walter one way to the end of his arm, then spun her back, keeping an eye out for Walter to trip again, just in case. Dancing as the guy wasn't as much fun, with the lack of moving around as much, but spinning one's partner was enjoyable, at least.

And seeing Walter having fun with it . . . well, that makes it worth it. The least he can do is make sure Walter stays happy and entertained.

All this moving around wasn't exactly what Walter was accustomed to in terms of dancing, but she was definitely enjoying herself. She spun back into Nadia's arms grinned. "Okay, next time you get to be the girl." Next prom? Next school dance? Next dance on the roof? Who's to say, but Walter thought this part was too much fun not to share.

"Definitely," Nadia said, letting it stay unclear as to whether he was saying he would definitely be the girl for the next time they went dancing, or if he was definitely up for some punch. Both, really, when it came down to it. "Lead the way."
