Fandom High Prom - Part I

City Hall is aglow with the light from the torches. Streamers in blue and yellow line the way for students towards the ballroom. Inside, hangings and other decorations represent the Lost Cities. A working volcano stands in Krakatoa's corner. Seven DVD players are projecting 3D images of the cities as well. And streamers, glitter, candles, balloons, and lights are everywhere.

Prom has begun.

"Mon Cal ballet? Do tell. It sounds interesting. Or not," she said with a laugh. "I can only imagine some of the things you've seen." Spin. Twirl. Shimmy. It's hard to be stylish dancing to this song so Isabel tries to make up for it with enthusiam.

"Think squids floating around in zero-g to incredibly random music," Anakin said. "Beats some of the other cultural experiences Obi-Wan has dragged me too, though."

Anakin was having fun, braid swinging wildly. "I don't remember what planet we were on, but we had to go to something that lives in our memories only as Tonedeaf Opera--four hours that we'll never get back."

"Oh my," Isabel giggled. "But I guess it's all part of the life of a diplomat. I'm sure you prefer the more what did we say? Persuasive parts of diplomacy?"

Anakin grinned, spinning Isabel again. "Aggressive negotiations, yeah. I'm much, much better at those."

"I'm keeping that in mind for the future. Except will your cell phone accept interstellar calls?" she asked, laughing as the room spun.

Anakin looked sad. "Probably not," he said. "But you blew up a demon--you'll be fine without my help."

"I refuse to have this conversation now, but at some point in the next few weeks, you might hear me rant about the utter suckiness of people leaving and not being able to stay in touch." Spin. Twirl. Smile. "I'm going to keep practicing. When the time comes, I'm going to be ready."

"You don't have to convince me of it," Anakin said with a wry smile. "You'll have a convert in Rory, too, I think."

He spun her around again.

"I'll keep that in mind. We can eat chocolate and mope together." Isabel stopped spinning and laughed as the room kept moving. "Oh my. Dizzy...'

"Dizzy isn't good," Anakin said, looking concerned. "Do you need a glass of punch or something?"

"I'm fine," she assured him. "Although it's probably a good idea to stop with the spinning for a while." Isabel stood up straight and held her head archly, attempting to affect the pose of a socialite. "Gallant gentleman, if you would be so kind as to escort me back to the snark corner?" Of course the regal tone? Was completely ruined by the laughter that kept trying to sneak out.

Anakin gave her a small bow, every inch the Jedi despite not having his normal robes on. "Of course," he murmured, holding out his arm like he would for a doddering Senator.

Then winked. "My lady," he said, "lead on."

"Why thank you," she said as she took his arm and started towards the corner. Reaching the volcano, Isabel released Anakin's arm and held out her hand, palm down. "It has been my great pleasure to dance my first dance of the evening with you."

Anakin reached for her hand and kissed her knuckles with a small bow.

Obi-Wan had taught him well.

"The pleasure was all mine," he replied. "But I suppose I should go find my date now, huh?"

Regal pose gone, Isabel smiled warmly and squeezed his hand. "It's probably a good idea. But thank you. That was a lot of fun."

"It was," Anakin said, grinning. He gave her a little wave and then wandered off to find Rory.
