Caritas - Open [6/27]

Veronica was still running on nerves and caffeine when she got to work. She was grateful to see Tino was back from wherever he'd been, though he snorted at her when she asked if he'd had a nice vacation.

Aaron hadn't appeared to her again since Anakin chased him off. She was hoping that was a good sign, even though Piper hadn't been able to help her.

As much as he wanted to argue, Sam knew that it would be kind of pointless by now. "Yeah, I guess so," he said. Looking only a little nervous, thanks to the beer, he went off to the stage.

Dean snickered as he watched Sammy and was laughing outright by the time his brother came back from the stage. "Dawn's right, we really should get you a little tool belt."

"I need another beer first. Then you can size me for belts," Sam said, attempting to ignore how embarrassed he felt at the moment.

Dean nodded to a new beer sitting on the bar near Sam's stool. "Figured you might. Being all macho's thirsty work."

Sam took the beer and sat down, drinking quite a bit of it before he spoke again. "Oh yeah, I feel so macho right now," he said, rolling his eyes.

"Better than feeling like a woman -- which I most definitely don't." Dean took a deep drink himself.

"You are so much more of a woman than I am of a macho man," Sam said, pausing for just a second. "Okay, I thought that was a lot more insulting to you before I actually said it."

Dean chuckled. "You're drunk," he said by way of explanation then took another drink of his own.

"I am not," Sam protested weakly. "This is only my third beer. That's pretty pathetic."

"How many beers does that make in your lifetime total?" Dean asked curiously.

"Um. Six or seven?" Sam said lightly.

"Yeah? When were the others?" Dean asked, sincerely interested. "I don't remember you drinking at the boy kissy party, although it got to a point where I might not have noticed."

"Yeah, I doubt you would have noticed anything at that party." Sam snickered. "But no, I didn't drink there. The others were all from Dad's stash, carefully stolen when I knew he wouldn't notice one bottle or can missing."

"Really?" Dean laughed delightedly then toasted his brother with an impressed smile. "That's my boy. I taught you well."

Sam grinned at Dean's reaction. "Yeah, you really have. You've taught me how to do all the important things - picking locks, stealing beers, trying to flirt with girls," he said, laughing.

Dean's grin widened. "What else are big brothers for?"

"In other families? Probably not the same things."

"I dunno. I think being a bad influence is a universal big brother job. Though, granted, the details are probably different."

"Probably." Sam smiled at Dean. "You're really good at being a bad influence though, if I don't tell you often enough."

"Yeah, well," Dean ducked his head, feeling suddenly embarrassed. "You've always been worth corrupting."

"Aww, thanks Dean." Sam snickered again. "Okay, maybe I am a little drunk. On a school night, no less. That's kind of messed up."

Dean shrugged. "We can do it again Friday night if it'll make you feel better."

"Or you can get drunk, and I'll just watch and laugh," Sam replied. "That'll be just as entertaining."

Dean shook his head sadly. "I see I still have a little work to do on corrupting you."

Sam smirked. "To make me enjoy drinking? I guess so."
