He shook his head. "We resigned so we could pursue someone who needed to pay for her crimes. The Provisional Council wasn't going to let us go. So, we resigned. And then I got sent here."

"And you'd rather be with the rest of the Rogues," Luke said.

It wasn't a question.

He answered anyway. "Yeah. I can't help that."

"I can understand that," Luke said. "Mon Mothma pretty much shipped me here over my objections last year to get me off of the Emperor's radar. It...wasn't the most successful project ever."

"It never seems to work out, does it?" Gavin asked, kicking the ground. "Maybe our luck is just that bad."

"But we'll be learning how to fly from the best pilot in the galaxy," Luke said, "and I'm not just saying that because he's my father. He's good. They'll have to let you back after that, right?"

"Commander Antilles promised this wasn't permanent," he answered. "And that they wouldn't give my spot away. But I can't wait to learn from your father."

"What's your call sign?" Luke asked, interested.

"Uh." He frowned. "Gavin. I haven't really gotten a call sign yet."

Oh look, more sulking.

Luke made a face. "Your cousin got a bunch of our friends to call me Wormie most of my life," he said. "Sometimes nicknames are just bad."

Gavin made an answering face. "Wormie? Any reason why?"

Something about a truly unflattering haircut a long time ago.

"No," Luke said instead. "Biggs was just being a pain that day."

Biggs? Had given him the haircut.

"Wormie." He laughed again. "It's kind of fun to say."

"If it gets around, I'll kick your ass," Luke threatened. While looking way, way up at Gavin.

Very threatening, really.

He laughed again, shaking his head. "It won't. I promise." He coughed. "Wormie."

"If you wake up with no hair some morning, that'll teach you not to mess with a Jedi," Luke warned.

"I'll sleep with a hat on," Gavin teased. "And some type of weapon."

"I'm very, very sneaky," Luke claimed, grinning back.

"Yeah, but now you've warned me your coming," Gavin pointed out. "So now I just won't sleep."

He really thought that would work, the dork.

Luke cracked up. "You think that'll work?"

"...yes." Then he made a face. "...no."

Luke snickered. "And they say Tatooine farm boys can't learn anything."
