Beach - Sunday Afternoon

After leaving Teddy at the Perk, Katara made her way along the beach thoughtfully.  She couldn't come back to this island after so long without visiting it and remembering the countless hours she'd spent perfecting her waterbending on it.  The ocean felt the same.  Warmer than at home, but still right.

She reached into her pocket to take out a piece of the chocolate she'd made sure to find and savored the flavour, wondering again if it were possible to import to home.

"So you're just adding to the offense?" he concluded.

"I am," Katara agreed. "What will you do?"

It was really strange not having to worry about anyone watching them, but he was more than happy to get used to it as he quickly stole another kiss. "There."

Katara smiled up at him. "I knew I liked international incidents."

"I will warn your brother," he teased, not that he had any desire to involve Sokka in any of this.

"You might get called Zukes again," she pointed out.

Zuko made a face. "Have I mentioned that your brother is strange? It sometimes makes me wonder how you turned out so normal."

"I'm not sure anything about any of us that went here is normal," Katara argued.

He raised an eyebrow. "I have always been perfectly normal," he told her.

Katara burst out laughing. "You've never even been normal for the Fire Nation, Zuko. And you know it, too."

"I don't consider it a bad thing," he said easily, smiling as he enjoyed hearing her laugh.

"If you were, I don't think you'd accept me of all people as your ambassador," Katara agreed, her fingers curling up to brush over his.

"Perhaps I merely enjoy the company of a beautiful woman over that of an old man," he teased.

"Hedonist," she teased back, knowing it was the farthest thing imaginable from the truth.

"If it means you'll stay as my ambassador," he agreed easily, eyes alight.

"I think we could set a price that would allow me to agree to that without a loss of honour," Katara said thoughtfully.

"We tend to be able to come to an agreement," he said with a soft smile.

She leaned up to whisper in his ear. "Stay with me tonight."

The smile grew wider as he leaned his head down towards her. "I have no objections to that."

"Then I'll consider staying on as Ambassador to your Court," Katara teased, grinning up at him.

"It seems like everyone gains from this agreement then," he replied, already looking forward to the evening.

She wouldn't change a thing about their relationship, Katara thought, but this ability to do what they wanted without planning in advance was possibly the only thing she wished she could. "Does it? Everyone? Because you'll be in a good mood?" Katara laughed up at him, too amused.

"Yes, didn't you know that?" he teased, reaching up to touch her hair, enjoying this freedom.

"Sometimes I forget the vast importance of the Firelord to every other creature on earth," Katara said, big eyes wide.

"I understand how a mere mortal could make that mistake," he told her solemnly.
