The York Gallery; Wednesday [ 09/17 ] -- Exhibit Opening! 8pm onward.

The past few weeks of work were finally coming to a head, and Charlotte was both nervous and excited and getting herself worked up into a frenzy with making sure everything was perfect. She couldn't help feeling an overwhelming sense of satisfaction with the exhibit, though. The turnout wasn't huge, but nicely manageable and thankfully not small by any measure. Some of the work was a bit amateurish, but she had to admit to being pretty blown away by a few of the others.

By the time eight o'clock rolled around and the doors were open, the gallery was set up in a display of the pieces by artist, and the usual spread of treats and drinks were available in another area of the room. Charlotte, dressed in a vibrant red, milled around the gallery to make sure everything was in order and all the guests were enjoying the exhibit. She was also keeping an eye out for the artists of certain pieces, since she was very eager to potentially meet them.

The Community Showcase Exhibit was open!

[[ or will be, once I get the very extensive OCD up! It's up! Enjoy! ]]

Katchoo was totally not studying his reaction, really. That quick flick of her gaze in that direction, over the top of her cup? Totally random.

It was simple, yet there was something about it. He folded an arm across his chest and a hand went to his lip as he studied it some more.

Katchoo? Taking her sweet time sipping that drink.

There was a certain, if thankfully vague, urge to throw the cup at him out of impatience, because what the hell did that pose mean?

The only real danger about cup throwing was what if some of the contents sloshed onto some of the pieces? A gallery was a dangerous place to be throwing things.

Or shooting, you know.

He continued to stand there, unaware he had an audience. Maybe it was the eyes? Something about how that woman looked that he couldn't quite figure...

Yeah, that was about the only thing stopping her, which made her even edgier.

Katchoo wasn't pacing.

Well, she wasn't.

Shifting a little from one foot to the other and back though . . .

He still didn't know what it was about the piece. Shrugging, he turned to wander toward something else and noticed the girl fidgeting.

He offered a small wave.

Katchoo immediately shrugged one shoulder, doing her best to look nonchalant -- a pretty good job of it, honestly.

Ignore the fact that her fingers were twitching.

He couldn't help but chuckle a little at her actions. "This yours?" he asked, pointing at the sketch.

"Mine?" Katchoo's expression was impassive, and her voice as raspily neutral as it got.

*twitch*

"Do I look like an artist?"

Never mind that the sketch looked like her.

[identity profile] crazypilotman.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
He stuffed his hands in his pockets and shrugged a bit. "Is there supposed to be a certain way an artist looks? I figured they probably look 'bout like everyone else."

He glanced back at the sketch. "Well, even if it's yours or not, I like it."

[identity profile] thismaskiwear.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"You like it," she repeated cautiously. "That's it. You just like it? No 'This is clearly a reflection of the artist's blah blah blah insert psychobabble here' or 'Look how the color balance does yadda yadda?'"

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] crazypilotman.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yep, that's it," he smiled lightly. "Why bother with all the analytical junk? Get tired of analyzing everything all the time, ya know?"

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] thismaskiwear.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good," Katchoo said a little more firmly. "You used that analytical junk, I might've had to throw something."

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] crazypilotman.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
He laughed. "Oh naw. I hear that kinda stuff all the time, why would I wanna stick it on someone else?" he grinned. "Name's Murdock," he offered.

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] thismaskiwear.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nice name," replied Katchoo, but didn't exactly make the effort to reciprocate with her own. Because she sucked like that sometimes.

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] crazypilotman.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thanks," he replied. He wasn't bothered that she didn't reply with her own. Not everyone always did. Some people just weren't overly social. No problem with that.

"So... see anything around here that caught your interest?"

Also, he was persistant.

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] thismaskiwear.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
That got him a sigh and a flat look. "It's an art gallery," she answered, letting him take it however he wanted to.

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] crazypilotman.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"I take that as a yes?" he tried, smiling a bit. "Or would that be a no except only for certain ones?"

He cocked his head at her a little. "You ain't much the talkative type, are ya?"

Hi, Captain Obvious.

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] thismaskiwear.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"No," Katchoo said in the same dry tone, "I'm just talking so fast you're only making out every fifteenth word."

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] crazypilotman.livejournal.com 2008-09-18 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Well I suppose that's possible." With him, it really could happen.

Most people at this point would probably get the hint and be on their way.

Murdock wasn't most people.

"So what's your name?" He was still aware that she hadn't given it and he was bound to keep pestering trying until he got it.

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] thismaskiwear.livejournal.com 2008-09-18 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
"I said it," Katchoo replied, eyes narrowing slightly. "It was in between the first and fifteenth word."

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] crazypilotman.livejournal.com 2008-09-18 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Dang, then I did miss it. Can I get it again?"

Pesky, huh?

"Please?"

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] thismaskiwear.livejournal.com 2008-09-18 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Did Katchoo just growl a little?

Yeah, she totally did.

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] crazypilotman.livejournal.com 2008-09-18 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
He merely raised an eyebrow. Like he'd never heard a growl before.

"Ok, fine. I get it. You know," he waggled a finger at her a bit, "you remind me of someone I know. Also kinda growly. I suppose I could go off now and leave you to your sulkin'. If you really wanted me to. Not the best way to meet new people, though."

Yah, he was pushing it now.

Re: Katina Choovanski.

[identity profile] thismaskiwear.livejournal.com 2008-09-18 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Screw you," Katchoo sputtered, her face going red, "you think I do this for the socializing?"
