The York Gallery; Wednesday [ 09/17 ] -- Exhibit Opening! 8pm onward.

The past few weeks of work were finally coming to a head, and Charlotte was both nervous and excited and getting herself worked up into a frenzy with making sure everything was perfect. She couldn't help feeling an overwhelming sense of satisfaction with the exhibit, though. The turnout wasn't huge, but nicely manageable and thankfully not small by any measure. Some of the work was a bit amateurish, but she had to admit to being pretty blown away by a few of the others.

By the time eight o'clock rolled around and the doors were open, the gallery was set up in a display of the pieces by artist, and the usual spread of treats and drinks were available in another area of the room. Charlotte, dressed in a vibrant red, milled around the gallery to make sure everything was in order and all the guests were enjoying the exhibit. She was also keeping an eye out for the artists of certain pieces, since she was very eager to potentially meet them.

The Community Showcase Exhibit was open!

[[ or will be, once I get the very extensive OCD up! It's up! Enjoy! ]]

That certainly got her a pointed look.

"What?" He couldn't do much except to stare at her blankly. Just because he friends had gone through a trial...

She looked at him carefully for a moment before nodding, mostly to herself.

"If it's personal," she said slowly, "you can keep it to yourself. My curiosity is no obligation."

He considered that for a minute, shifting his gaze back to the piece.

"It's not you," he replied after a bit, "it's me. Not that I don't want you know, it's just... not the easiest thing to discuss, you know?"

He looked back at her, a slightly pained expression on his face.

Her eyes went distant, years into the past when she was younger and reckless and in love with a man she had no right to be in love with. Or have in love with her.

"Yes, HM. I certainly know."

He smiled faintly at her and patted her arm gently. "Tell you what," he leaned and spoke close to her ear, "I'll tell you about it, but not here, alright?" He didn't particularly feel like risking a breakdown in the middle of the gallery.

There was a bit of a smile once he'd pulled away, but some of that pain was still there too.

"Whenever you'd like," she assured him.

He brushed a kiss across her cheek.

He took a hand in hers and squeezed it gently. "What shall we do now, dear lady?"

"Well, as I've done the rounds so far..."

"Would you like to call it an evening?" he suggested quietly. "I wouldn't mind some company."

"Sounds like a plan to me," she admitted with a brief grin.

"Good." He tugged gently on her arm, grining. "Then let's split."
