Atlas Gym, Wednesday Evening

There was a large signboard in front of Atlas Gym proclaiming the evening's event:

Swim Suit Up and Grab a Noodle!
Wednesdays at the Dive-In
Tonight's Feature - Space Battles IV: Fresh Dreams

Students, townies, and teachers alike could cuddle up on a raft or a noodle in the heated, Olympic-sized pool or the bubbly jacuzzi and watch Duke and Hanno save Princess Leanna from the evil Dark Helmet.

"I think so?" Ella wasn't certain. "I know she has a bunch of machines -- I should find out if that's one of them. Are they terribly hard to come by if it isn't?"

"Not at all. I can bring mine over if we need it," Dick said. "So I'm bringing the player, the movies, and the food. What are you bringing to the party, exactly?"

"My hospitality and charming nature?" Ella tried. "Or I could take care of the food."

"I would have settled for the hospitality and charming nature," Dick said. "But if you want to do the food, too, I won't object."

"I'll make something, but I appreciate the compliment," she told him, turning her attention to the screen. "So who's that guy?"

"That guy is Duke Lucas, a simple farm boy who doesn't know that he has a great destiny ahead of him," Dick said. "He's a dork, but he's fun."

"Does he always whine so much?" Ella asked with a little wince. "I think he hurt my eardrum."

"In this movie, yes," Dick said. "He gets a little better later on. Not much. But a little."

"It's not so annoying if I know to expect it," Ella decided, and turned her attention back to the screen.

Something jumped out from behind a wall, and she gasped and grabbed at Dick's shoulder.

"It's okay," Dick said, patting her hand now that it was on his shoulder. He had to think about what horror movies he could conceivably describe as 'classic' if this was her reaction to that kind of thing. "It was nothing big, see?"

"I can see he's fine," Ella admitted. "I'll get used to movies sometime. Promise."
