Ichigo made it into the shop after class and started his shift by feeding Jeremy a piece of candy bar. Ichigo wasn't even sure why he'd bought the damn thing as it was way too sweet to eat first thing in the morning. Jeremy had no objections however.

Ino bounced in, the bag holding their lunch swinging in one hand even as the other, with the hot chocolates was rock steady. "Ichigo!" she chirped.

Maybe she'd get away without another lecture about not being around?

"Ino," Ichigo replied, he didn't do chirping. Really, he sounded idiotic if he chirped. Maybe she'd get away from the lecture, though. Maybe, he was eyeing her suspiciously.

She bounced over to him, grinning impishly. "How're you?"

"Hrmph," his eyes were slightly narrowed and he reached out to tug her hair. "Wondering where you went."

He was aware that he could have gone and asked her that question, but... No, he had no excuse.

"Back home," she said, with a little bit of a sigh. "Mission. Didn't have time to call and say I'd be gone."

"I could have been worried," he pointed out. Could have. He hadn't really been worried. Nope, not at all.

"I know," she said, glancing up at him. "Sorry?"

"Hrmph," he eyed her for a moment, then leaned forward for a kiss.

She went and kissed him back, relaxing a bit.

Apparently the kissing was enough to bribe his crankiness and Ichigo pulled back after a moment. His hand slid to her shoulder and down her arm to take the bag from her. "Tell me about it?"

She let him take the bag, smiling at that. "I can't tell much," Ino said, "as we're not supposed to talk 'bout missions with civilians."

He moved back to the counter and Jeremy followed him, looking expectantly at the bag the rat just knew contained food. "I'm not a civilian," he reasoned.

She grinned down at Jeremy.

"You count as one back home," Ino said, rolling her eyes.

"Not at your home," Ichigo pointed out, shrugging and he grabbed the extra chair. "At least you didn't get beaten up?"

She flopped down in his chair, setting the hot chocolate down on the counter.

"True," she conceded, "and nope, no beating up at all."

"Did you beat anyone up?" he tried, sitting down in the other chair without complaint. It was possible that he just missed beating things up.

"Nope," she said, sounding almost sulky about that. "No beating up in any way, shape or form."

He frowned. "Well, that's boring," he commented while he leaned forward to peer at the bag of sandwiches.

"It means I was safe though," she said, slumping down in her chair. "Which you ought to be happy about."

"Yeah, but..." he frowned at her reasoning. He did like her to be safe, but it was like trying to convince Rukia that he could handle hollows on his own and she needn't be there. "It's your duty."

[intraspective]

"Beating up people isn't my duty," she said patiently. "Accomplishing the missions we're assigned and protecting the village is my duty. That the missions happen to include a lot of beating up is just part of it. We accomplished the mission, my duty was well done."

"Okay, that's good," he nodded and he opened the bag of sandwiches since Ino wasn't moving. "But the beating up can be the fun part, right?"

Ino wasn't really hungry yet, though there was definitely a sandwich in there for her. She peered at him over her hot chocolate.

"Beating up things is always fun," she said lightly. "Geez."

"Except when it beats you up more," he said, resigned. He pulled out two sandwiches and studied the toppings. "Which one do you want?"

She wriggled her fingers at the one closest to her. "Chicken, please."

And if he didn't hand it over, she'd kidnap it from him.
