Atlas Gym, Fandom Fight Club [Sunday Evening]

There was a poster tacked up on the door to the main gym, with the following text written in alternating handwriting, as if the marker had been shared between two people:

Rules of Fandom Fight Club
1. What happens here, stays here. We can't keep the squirrels out, but if somebody tells you something on the mat, you don't repeat it off the mat.
2. No weapons or powers unless everyone knows in advance and is fighting within their weight class.
3. No shoes.
4. If someone says "stop" or goes limp, the fight is over.
5. Two people to a fight.
6. Fights go on as long as they have to.
7. No tourists. If you need to take a week to see what this is like, cool, but no coming back just to watch. You wanna watch, get a TV; here, everybody fights.
8. No fighting if you're sick or injured. You wanna screw up your body, you do it on your own time.
9. The organizers reserve the right to remove you from the club at any time for violation of these rules.

Underneath the sign was a table with a sign-in sheet, where people could print their name and if they'd fought before which is handwavey since y'all already did it, which would be collected once the meeting started.

Inside, Tyler was pacing, barefoot and holding himself so erect he looked about three inches taller than he normally did. He clapped his hands in a way designed to silence anyone still talking.

"Welcome to Fight Club," he began. "In this room, you are not a teacher or a student or the guy who works behind the bar at Caritas. You are not what you own or what you wear. You are not a special, unique snowflake. You are a body. You hit, you bleed, you feel pain, you cause pain, you come back for more. You get better. You might even find redemption."

He glanced at the group as if daring anyone to argue with him on these points.

"The purpose of this group is catharsis and self-improvement through unarmed combat," Ghanima said briskly. For once, she was not wearing her usual ornate gowns, but a simple woven tunic and slacks and was barefoot like Tyler. "There is absolutely nothing wrong with therapeutic violence - no matter what the armchair shrink of the week says - and this place is here to provide you with that option."

"That said, should you wish to have a friendly spar with someone using practice weapons, you should feel free so long as both parties agree. Please refrain from using actual weapons until you've worked with someone more than once."

"And while we're being the buzzkill jerks with all the rules," Tyler said, "here's a quick gym tour. Padding's over here -- beginners, wear gloves, everyone else, it's at your discretion -- practice weapons are there, and these soft blue things? These are mats. We fight on the mats."

"Speak for yourself," Ghanima murmured, bemused. "I may occasionally be evil, but I am not a jerk or a buzzkill."

"Now, my favorite part. We're going to randomly pick some fights." It was possible Ghanima looked a bit too gleeful about this. "You and you. You two. You two too. You and you, and hrm, you, and ... you." There was practically a halo over her head as she pointed at Tyler. "There. Get to know your new friends, then get to know the mat. Anyone I didn't just pair up, find your own partner."

Unlike signs for dances, signs for a fight club did catch Ichigo's attention. He'd almost passed up on it, but then he'd been missing his duties as a shinigami and maybe this would be like the dojo he used to attend when he was younger. So Ichigo ended signing himself up and after taking off his shoes, he found himself a spot on the mats to through the warm up excercises he learned from his sensei.

Okay, so Tahiri looked a little anxious today, but she was here. Hoping this hadn't been a bad idea. Looking around, surveying the other attendees, and telling herself she really needed the practice.

No shoes? Like that was ever a problem for her.

Jen was warming up with an extra dose of her usual singleminded focus, not saying a word to anyone (for the time being). It was a frighteningly systematic warmup, really.

Of course he approved of an idea of Ghanima's, and Leto was looking forward to this. He had taken his shoes and his shirt off and was now stretching, while glancing around the room.

Priestly had seen the signs up around the town and honestly didn't know what to think. There was a fight club. Not training, as far as he could tell, just brawling for the sake of hurting people.

That . . . just didn't seem right.

So he was here. To observe, no matter what the rules said. And maybe convince a couple people that this was a bad idea.

Mostly because neither of them really knew they were supposed to warm up or anything like that.

Jack was trying to contain his excitement, doing a bit of stretching, showing off The Guns. There's a reason he wears tank tops most of the time.

Dinah showed up after seeing the posters around town yesterday, hoping someone would be willing to go up against sticks at some point, but content to just be ready for hand-to-hand today.

All right, this didn't look so bad. And even if it did, Jaina thought that she'd been neglecting this part of her training anyhow, and she really should be doing it anyway. She skipped a warmup- the fights she got into sedom allowed for time to stretch- and eyed the crowd instead.

You better believe that Reno was there. He'd been itching for a good spar for... Well. For a week, since he got to tussle with Worf in the meditation room of Wellspring last Monday.

He'd left his baton behind, and he was now jogging on the spot, gearing himself up for a good scrap.

Savannah was here, stretching out and watching with interest. She had signed up because she felt that it would be a good thing for her to learn some more fighting techniques.

Turtle was half-wondering why she'd decided to come here, and just kept repeating her self-improvement mantra in her head as she bounced a little from foot to foot to loosen up.

It was a club! For buttkicking! True, it was not specifically for the cause of goodness, but buttkicking even without the side of goodness was still buttkicking and so Minsc and Boo were there! Boo, of course, would not fight, but instead just hide out in Minsc's pouch because there was no way he could separate himself from the fuzzy little creature.

Adora was amazed by the variety of people in the gym, and then she took off her shoes and felt insanely short and unskilled. Heels really gave a good deal more than physical stature.

Anakin had been on the island for his weekly trip to the gym (lightsaber practice wasn't exactly something to work on in Georgetown), and had stuck around for the opportunity to hit people who could actually take a punch.

Anemone didn't really get the entire concept of 'warming up', since usually her fighting happened after she was already in a temper.

Instead she spent her time people-watching, fingers twitching occasionally as she wondered when they could get to the punching.
