Park, Thursday Morning

With graduation this weekend, the school expected most of the graduation guests to begin arriving today. So, to make sure they felt welcomed, the student council had set up a small gathering in the park where the guests could arrive, mingle and relax before heading off with their guests and friends.

There were finger foods on a long table and nametags on the table beside it. Chairs were set out for people to sit and talk if they so wanted.

It was time to get graduation weekend rolling!

[This is just a tiny mingling posts for all grad guests, alums, expats, students, teachers and townies to meet up and talk a little. There's going to be a garage sale later and we encourage you all to go to that as well!]

"You see her yet? Ah, come on, where's my baby!"

"Will you stop that!" Loretta complained. "Always makin' fun of me."

"I can't help it if you're like the goddamn statue of liberty. I was complimentin' ya for crissake."

"Oh that's real nice, Annette. Why don't you shut that trap of yours and help me look for the kid?"

"How about you remember who you're talkin' to. And get me another beer."

Loretta pulled a beer can from her back pocket, stuck it in Annette's beer koozie so know one would know they were drinking, and popped the top for her. "Want to hit the bar tonight? Bet we can get some."

"Oh my god yah, you betcha I do. Just don't tell Amber. Do you see her yet?" Annette concentrated on sucking down her beer.

"I'm lookin'," Loretta muttered.

They weren't hard to spot. Amber skipped up to her ma, beaming, headache nearly gone. "Hi!"

Oh god. It was them. Not that he had issue with Annette but Loretta on the other hand...

He ducked through the crowd, hoping he wouldn't be spotted.

Loretta could spot anything, anyone, a mile away. Not that she'd own up to it.

She excused herself from Annette and her kid and chased after Murdock.

"Hey, you!"

Ohhhhh noooooooo. Run Murdock, run!!!!

But instead he just nodded, stuffing his hands in his pockets. "Hi."

"Well hey you, aren't you lookin' good," she said, smiling wide. "Whatcha been up to?"

Re: Mingling

[identity profile] crazypilotman.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Murdock did his best to remain cool and neutral. They could hold an intelligent conversation, no prob.

"Nothin' much. Work, work an' more work. They've been keepin' me hoppin' busy."

No they hadn't.

"So...big day for Amber eh?" It was a safe topic.

"Yah, you betcha. Our girls growin' up."

But Loretta could talk about Amber later. She loved her to death, but there was a man standing right in front of her.

She stepped closer. "So I'm thinkin' of hittin' the bar later. You up for joinin' me?"

Okay, so maybe it hadn't been such a safe topic after all.

"Uhm, probably not. Sadly," he added, trying to let her down easy. Hey, he might not enjoy being chased by her, but that didn't mean he was a downright prick about it. "I'm expectin' some company, friend from outta town. I told him we'd hang out so I kinda owe it to him. Ya know?"

Please, please, please let Mike stay at his place. Otherwise... oh god. He totally wasn't going to think in that direction, thank you very much.

"Oh, sure, yah, I get friends comin' in to visit and all that."

...

"Would he mind company?"

Liir was here, looking for Amber and her family.

Re: Mingling

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Amber spotted him easily and took right to him. "Liir, hi, my ma is here. And Loretta." She spoke quickly because fast on her heels was her ma. Loretta took off somewhere and Amber wasn't going to guess as to where.

Liir gave her a short bow and smiled shyly at her.

"Hello, Mrs. Atkins. It's a pleasure to meet you. Your daughter has spoken very well of you."

He blushed a little.

"I'm sorry it's taken to long to say hello."

"Honey, I ain't married. Just call me Annette," she smirked. He was polite, she'd give him that.

"Yah, well, she should. I raised her."

She raised her hook of a hand. "You two's goin' steady then, right?"

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"I told you we were already, ma," Amber said, embarrassed.

"We've been seeing each other for a while now," he admitted with a faint blush at his cheeks.

"And we hope to continue things even after she, er, leave the island. I care for your daughter very much."

He wanted to touch her. He wasn't sure if he should, though.

Annette continued to eye the boy. He was sweet if she had to label him. Tall too. Easy on the eyes.

"Ain't you a real doll. He's a doll, Amber. You should keep him. Come here and give ma a hug." She opened her arms.
