Caritas [Saturday evening]

Robin was not wearing her Robin Sparkles regalia longer than she needed to. Which was for the obligatory performance.

So, for right now, the wig and graffiti denim jacket were tucked away, and Robin herself, brunette and irritable-looking as ever, was behind the bar and eyeing a bottle of Johnnie Walker.

[hooooly crap, wait for this OCD. it's intense. OKAY IT'S ALL UP. For the sake of not collapsing the post from sheer OCD, there's no audience reactions threads -- just react right off the performances, please! Have fun! \m/]

Dani definitely noticed Minsc and debated hiding behind the bar for a few seconds. Then she remembered that her conversation with Vince had actually gone rather well and decided to take the high road.

"Hello!" she said. "I haven't see you around lately, but then again, nothing's attacked The Gig for a while. I suppose that's a good thing."

Well, that kind of settled it a little. And there was no stabbing. Stabbings were at least seventy percent more likely to occur in a tavern, in Minsc's experience, so he kept on the ready, giving a nod that was just a bit too quick.

"Hullo, Lady Dani! How are you this evening? I am very well, thank you." The fact that that whole blurt was entirely devoid of Minsc-esque emphasis was a good indication that he put a lot of thought into it, even if the pacing didn't seem to be a consideration at all. It came out in just three breaths. "And I have not had a need to repair any armour, either, so that is probably also good."

Dani had sharp tongue, but she usually didn't resort to stabbings.

"I'm good," she said. "It's very exciting to have this convention in town, isn't it? And I hope those last repairs on your armour held up just fine."

"Is that where all the people came from?" Minsc remarked, blinking at the crowd again.

Yeah, he stayed on top of things sometimes.

"I didn't know! What kind of convention is it? It doesn't look much like the crowd in the convention I came to that first introduced me to Fandom, that is for sure!"

"It seems to be some sort of musician's convention. I was talking to one of the performers earlier," said Dani. "It reminds me a little bit of hanging out at my brother's nightclub and seeing all the concerts they held."

"...I knew a bard once," Minsc said, after a moment of going over whether he had anything to contribute to a conversation like this, and he still sounded a touch uncertain. "Wussy fellow. Absolutely no good in battle."

"I don't suppose singing or playing guitar are particularly useful in battle, unless you break the guitar over someone's head," said Dani, snickering.

Re: The Bar [06/20]

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-21 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Minsc couldn't help grinning at a visual like that. "Someone actually tried that on me once," he said proudly with a chuckle. "It did not do them much good at all! Mostly, the bard is supposed to help boost morale in a battle, but I have never had much of a problem with morale!"

In fact, he had a problem with having too much morale.

"Boost morale in battle? How are they supposed to do that, break into song in the middle of a fight?" asked Dani, amused. "They might be more useful breaking guitars over people's heads."

Re: The Bar [06/20]

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-21 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
And how could Minsc not grin at that? It was good, to come across a woman who understood just how stupid bards truly were. But it was also bad, as appreciating Lady Dani for appreciating that bards were stupid left him being reminded of other ways in which Lady Dani could be appreciated...

He cleared his throat a little.

"Ah, yes. Exactly! And perhaps as good fodder to throw to the metaphorical wolves so the real fighters can get down to business!"

"That's right! Someone usually needs to take one for the team, and it might as well be the most useless one," said Dani. "When my brother ran his nightclub, it was the opposite way around. He was the one who sacrificed to bring in all these hot bands. Then again, Junior's not really a fighter."

"And, typically, people who run the clubs and taverns don't really like a lot of fighting in them, anyway. I've had a few try to kick me out for that before..."

They never got very far. It was pretty hard to actually kick a man like Minsc out of a place.

"Don't get me wrong. My brother could probably hold his own in a bar fight. He just doesn't seem to be able to stand up to our dad," said Dani.

Raising an eyebrow, she added, "I'm sure you'd make anyone regret trying to kick you out of a place."

Oh, how nice of her to notice! Minsc couldn't help but preen a little. "Especially," he said, "if they like their furniture! And is your father a strong fellow, Lady Dani?"

Minsc bet he could still probably take him even if he was, though.

"My father is a deceitful, sneaky, devious man, but compared to you, he's not very strong at all," said Dani. "I'm sure you could take him out without a lot of effort."

Re: The Bar [06/20]

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-21 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Any man," said Minsc, solemnly, "who is deceitful and sneaky and devious is not a strong man in the slightest."

Then there was a pause.

"If you don't mind me saying so, anyway, Lady Dani."

[personal profile] justlike_a_girl 2009-06-21 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't mind at all. I'm inclined to agree with you on that point," said Dani. "The whole reason I came to Fandom is because he cheated me out of my business back home."

Re: The Bar [06/20]

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-21 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
"And what did you do about it?" asked Minsc, who expected there should be at least some face punching in involved.
justlike_a_girl: (Dani -- Won't Bend)

Re: The Bar [06/20]

[personal profile] justlike_a_girl 2009-06-21 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
There hadn't been any face punching involved.

"I negotiated a financial settlement for my shares in the family business, packed my bags, and left town," said Dani. "I haven't spoken to my dad since, though he's tried many times to get in touch with me."

Re: The Bar [06/20]

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-21 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, there was a noted lack of face punching in that answer.

"...Want I should punch his face?" Minsc offered, to help remedy that.

Of course, a punch in the face from Minsc could cause considerable damage, but there was a good chance that he's stop trying to get in touch with Lady Dani afterwards.

But, really, it was the solution to anything, right?

"It's very nice of you to offer, but no, I don't think Dad needs a punch in the face," said Dani. "Even if he is devious and underhanded, he's still my dad."

Besides, Dani may have left out a few details, such as how her father took over the farm as part of a plea agreement that kept Dani out of legal trouble.

Re: The Bar [06/20]

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-21 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Minsc probably wouldn't have understood those details, anyway. He made no effort to hide the snap of his fingers in disappointment.

"Well," he sighed, "the offer is still on the table should you change your mind, Lady Dani."

Re: The Bar [06/20]
