Caritas [Saturday evening]

Robin was not wearing her Robin Sparkles regalia longer than she needed to. Which was for the obligatory performance.

So, for right now, the wig and graffiti denim jacket were tucked away, and Robin herself, brunette and irritable-looking as ever, was behind the bar and eyeing a bottle of Johnnie Walker.

"Damn," Serena had been hoping... She fingered the edge of her glass, drawing an invisible pattern, "I mean, to go to New York? I miss it so much."

"It's not like you couldn't go back and visit, is it?" Angela asked. "Take a weekend off and get a top-up dose of New York?"

"I know, just..." It was hard to explain, "I'm trying to get used to here, and not be there. I just was hoping for the news."

Angela nodded her head a little apologetically. "Sorry. I've been there a few times, but... different universe, or timeline or something, probably." Because this place was lovely and confusing like that.

"Exactly," she sighed, "even if you had gone with Chuck, it wouldn't have been the same."

"One of those things you've kind of got to get used to around here," she agreed, and shrugged before sipping at her drink.

"And weirdly, you do start to, sort of."

"I think I am," she was playing with her glass more than drinking it. Another trick to avoid it, and one she didn't even realise she still did. "As weird as it is, it happens."

"Well, here is does, at least," she said with a laugh. "It's taken me about this long to really catch up."

"See, I'm ahead of the curve already," Serena pointed out. "I'll be caught up and ready for full club membership any day."

"Exactly," she said, still smiling. That grin very rarely went away, to be honest. "I mean, it's been okay for you so far, right?"

"There have been moments," she admitted, grimacing a bit, "but things got worked out."

"The whole Blair issue?" she guessed.

"Still not worked out," she shrugged, trying to brush it off, "but we'll get there. More some big sibling issues. But they're better now. And hey, in a little bit we'll have new students, and I won't be a newbie anymore."

"Very true," she agreed. "And your big sib's Hannibal, right?"

'That's the one," she took a sip of her drink, wanting the liquid fortification, even as she pressed her fingers to her temple. Maybe the couple of drinks had gotten to her, or it was just that she liked Angela.. "I odn't know what I was thinking. How could he not have a girlfriend?"

Angela's eyebrows went up a little. Slowly putting a few pieces together. "I know, right? I think that's what I thought when I met him." Of course, he hadn't, when she met him.

"See, exactly," she shrugged. "It doesn't matter anyway. Just a little flirtation gotten out of hand, right?" She was looking to Angela for reassurance.

Definitely putting two and two together. At this point, she had at least got the most of her irritation out on Hannibal. Enough that she couldn't really bring herself to take it out on Serena.

"That's what I heard," she said. "He was very emphatic on that."

Sadly, it had taken her a little bit longer to put two and two together. But while self-absorbed, she wasn't dumb, and the way Angela phrased it... "Oh god. You're not..."

She winced.

"His girlfriend?" Angela nodded, swirling her drink. "Yeah. The very same."

"I'm sorry?" It seemed the only thing she could say, and it really wasn't enough. "I should go."

"Sweetie, I spent enough time being mad at him, that I really don't have the energy to do the same with you," Angela told her.

That was a relief, actually. A massive one. "Good, because all I seem to be able to manage is alienating the few girls I'm friends with, and I have to stop that."

"Just don't go around kissing him now you know," Angela said, sipping from her drink. "And I think we'll be fine."

"Not even a plan, at all." She may still think he was cute, but she wasn't into the drama. Not anymore.
