Valentine's Day Dance | Town Hall | Saturday Evening [8pm on]

As Desperation Day dances went, this was probably not the most tacky ever. Of course given that it was Desperation Day, so tacky really went with the territory.

There was glitter, oh, was there ever glitter in a multitude of sparkly colours. But even more so, it seemed that the decorators had taken the 'Hearts Afire' theme literally as large cut out hearts adorned the walls. Each with a tissue paper 'flame' bursting from the top of it. Streamers in all shades of pink twisted across the ceiling, forming almost a canopy. Which hopefully would not be literally set afire. The Fire Department would probably disapprove of that. Also a lot of people's dresses would be ruined.

Let's stay away from any literal fire, okay, guys?

Ino giggled, reaching to loop her arm through his.

"Don't say that too loud," she teased him. "Or people'll get the wrong idea."

After all, she knew what he meant.

"I don't think I've seen you in much other than your uniform," she noted, leaving off the whole staying in his room in Midgar and having seen him in his boxers for sure. "Do you own t-shirts and jeans and things?"

"Of course I do," Zack replied, laughing and giving one shoulder a shrug. The other shoulder was going to stay put, because there was a pretty girl now attached to that arm, and it would be in bad form to do anything that might potentially dislodge her.

Zack didn't often have pretty girls attached to his arms.

"I just wear my uniform anyhow. It's more comfortable, for starters. And you never know when something might attack, around here. It wouldn't do me any good to get stuck out there with no potions, even."

If he ever got a new swimsuit, it was going to have to have very deep pockets.

They were very nice arms, really. She was quite happy to be attached to one.

Ino shook her head, laughing.

"Keep that up and I'll dare you into wearing casual clothing for a tiny bit for me," she teased, eyes dancing. "Maybe in exchange for dinner or something like that."

Though bathing suit shopping was already a plan.

"And would I have to be wearing the casual clothing while we're eating dinner?"

Note the 'we,' there. Yes, he'd already pretty much made up his mind that he was going to wear casual clothing in exchange for being able to take her out for dinner. Why?

"That might be totally okay," she said, laughing. "If we had dinner plans."

Of course she noticed the 'we'.

"Why wouldn't we have dinner plans?" Zack shot her that, 'I am about to ask you out to dinner now' grin of his, leaning sideways a little more and holding up one finger with his free hand. "They'd go really well after swimming plans, for that matter. Then you'd get to see me in a swimsuit and civilian clothes, all in one day."

Plotting! Scheming! Oh-ho!

"And that'd be after you went around on your knees for a day for me," she noted, grinning up at him. "Or did you think I'd have forgotten that?"

Zack laughed. And that was possibly a touch of pink on his cheeks, there, yes.

"Wishful thinking," he admitted, though his grin didn't lessen at all. "For a day on your knees, I'm going to have to wear my uniform, I think. It would be able to handle it. Jeans probably wouldn't."

"Then food and swimming the day after?" she wheedled. "Then it's the best of both worlds."

For her, it should be noted. Not him.

"Food and swimming the next day," Zack agreed, putting his free hand on his hip. "That keeps me from having to worry about hitting my nose on the table while we're trying to eat, too."

Oh, that Zack, with his wacky mental images.

Ino laughed at him, leaning a little.

"You'd be able to use a chair, you dork!"

"But then I'd be too tall!"

Sitting there at the table, on a chair, on his knees!

"I'd have to bend over to reach my plate."

"You'd have the use of your arms," she replied innocently. "You'd be able to reach then."

Also, the mental images were priceless.

"You just want to see me trying to get into a chair from a kneeling position," Zack accused, lightly. "You know, I think even I kinda want to see that. It'd be funny."

Zack Fair, sucker for humiliation.

"We could get you a set of doggy stairs," Ino suggested, not denying his accusation at all. "They're super cute and little dogs use 'em to get on beds. I bet they'd work for getting to a chair as well!"

"Doggy stairs?" Zack was laughing now, yes. He couldn't help it. This conversation had just gotten weird. "That's totally you calling me a puppy, isn't it?"

He could tell! He knew these things!!

"You said it, not I!" she said merrily. "I bet I could even find stairs in SOLDIER purple."

And if not she could totally buy stairs in off-white or something and dye them.

...Ino, don't think like that.

"You'd... make doggy stairs to match my uniform?"

Zack needed a moment, here.

"Seriously?"

"Weeell," she said, peeking up at him. "If you were using them, yeah."

Or maybe as a joke.

But only if he didn't mind.

... Ino wasn't going to think too hard about that line of thought.

"I guess it would come in handy if Fandom ever decided to turn me into a puppy again," Zack replied, glancing down at her. He was smiling. See, he totally didn't mind.

He was a really easy kid, that way.

"I think I'll just setting for a dinner date that I can walk to, though."

Those doggy stairs were totally going to make an appearance when he least expected them, yes.

"That works for me," she admitted. "I'd rather have you walking around with me anyway if we're doing dinner and swimming."

"You just don't want to be taller than your date," he laughed. And then, on a whim, he stepped around in front of her and reached for her other hand. "Wanna dance?"

He had the attention span of a kumquat. Could Ino tell?

"I'd have to work to be taller than you for very long," she said, taking his hand. "I'd love to dance."

Ino could tell. Ino didn't mind.

Was it possible for Zack to perk up any more than he already was?

... Apparently!

"Great!" And now he was sounding all too eager. Silly boy. "I'm... not really much of a dancer. I mean, I can be light on my feet when I have to be, but I don't really know any steps. I hope you don't mind?"

All this while attempting to weave backward through the crowd and toward the dance floor, yes.

[You may laugh at me, now. This totally did take me, like, four seconds to write once I woke up. Ō_ō ]

"Zack," she said, trying not to laugh as he tugged her with him. "You're going to crash into someone that way."

And then Ino would laugh and laugh.

"And I don't mind," Ino added, "we'll manage."
