Valentine's Day Dance | Town Hall | Saturday Evening [8pm on]

As Desperation Day dances went, this was probably not the most tacky ever. Of course given that it was Desperation Day, so tacky really went with the territory.

There was glitter, oh, was there ever glitter in a multitude of sparkly colours. But even more so, it seemed that the decorators had taken the 'Hearts Afire' theme literally as large cut out hearts adorned the walls. Each with a tissue paper 'flame' bursting from the top of it. Streamers in all shades of pink twisted across the ceiling, forming almost a canopy. Which hopefully would not be literally set afire. The Fire Department would probably disapprove of that. Also a lot of people's dresses would be ruined.

Let's stay away from any literal fire, okay, guys?

"Please," Warren said, stepping up to Bod from the side with his hands in his pockets, "tell me that I'm not the only one who is drowning in pink, here?"

"I don't know if I'm drowning in pink or glitter," he said, brushing some away as he said. "Is this typical of the holiday?"

"More or less, I think," Warren replied, glancing at his shoulder where some more glitter had settled and then heaving a sigh. "I'm going to twinkle for weeks."

Big white wings were one thing. Big sparkly white wings were a different matter entirely.

"At least everyone will be able to see you coming at night?" Bod said, trying to make light of a rather...shiny situation.

"Yeah, and so long as nobody mistakes me for the tooth fairy, I'll be all set."

At least there wouldn't be much of a chance of him being hit by a rickshaw while walking down the street in the dark?

"And I don't know if glitter will be endearing or off putting to those of the opposite sex," he added. "It's not very masculine, is it?"

"Not even remotely masculine," Warren confirmed, attempting to stifle a cringe behind a lopsided smile. "But there has to be some sort of girl out there who likes their men a little shiny, right?"

Yes, Warren. They were called fangirls, and they firmly believed in the glitter to boykissy dynamic. You would do best to flee from that sort.

"It wouldn't surprise me," he said, glancing around and trying to pinpoint anyone who might think that way. "Despite knowing that, I still find myself wanting to not get so liberally covered. I have few clothes as it is and having them all be sparkling might be difficult to explain."

"You know, I can relate?"

Which was weird. Considering the amount of money that Warren had access to, you'd think that being able to replace sparkling clothing would be easy.

"I kind of have to tailor my clothing a little before I can wear it. So I don't really have as much here as I could."

"And depending on the colors you wear, glitter would be prominent," he said, brushing at some glitter on his dark color jacket. "And there's really no good excuse for it either. You can't very well say it's rain, right?"

Warren blinked, actually taking that statement into serious thought for a second, there.

"Well," he noted, "this place does drop some pretty weird stuff from the sky now and then..."

"Glitter rain?" It didn't sound too far out of the ordinary, actually. "It might work considering everyone here is getting covered so we wouldn't be alone."

"I guess if that fails, we could always just take the easy route and blame the sparkles on the dance, then." But where was the fun in using the obvious answer? Really, now. "And I bet if we were desperate enough to not stand out too much, we could just... I don't know. Shake our clothing out in the laundry room, and see what happens."

"The janitor would hate us." But still, it meant they'd lack glitter on their clothes. "I thought about passing it off as a new fashion trend but I am the least believable person around when it comes to fashion."

Warren laughed a little, giving his shoulders a light shrug.

"I think I could fake it," he offered, gesturing to his clothing with one hand. "If you really felt as though some namedropping would help, it never hurts to mention a Worthington."

"It sounds more distinguished than Owens," Bod agreed. "Perhaps it's because it's longer?"

He had no idea. Maybe the glitter was stifling his intelligence.

Glitter was really very strangely good for that, wasn't it?

"Longer might have something to do with it. I think any name with an 'ington' at the end of it mostly just sounds cultured and probably a bit snobby by default."

"So it's up to you to not live up to the snobby part of that name?" asked Bod. He didn't see Warren as snobby at all. "Or you just remain the exception to the rule?"

"I think being a snob is probably some kind of state of being that a guy has to earn," Warren decided. "That's got to be my problem. I just don't have any snob-points collected just yet."

It wasn't as though snob-points came free on the backs of specially marked cereal boxes or anything, after all.

"Honestly, I think I can cope with being the non-snobby Worthington in the family. Third time's a charm, and all of that."

"If it helps, I haven't seen any snobbiness from you at all," he assured him. "So, I think you can safely assume that you're doing well in not being the snob of your family."

"That actually is a relief," Warren replied, smiling. "I'm pretty sure I'd deserve being thrown into the decorations if I ever started giving off snob-vibes."

And then he'd twinkle for months.

"Well, if that's going to happen, I don't thin it's going to be me throwing you into them," said Bod, snickering. "Unless I lost my mind. And from what I'm hearing of this place, that is entirely is possible."

"So, if I leave here tonight draped in streamers, it's totally safe to blame it on temporary insanity brought on by a dangerous dosage of glitter," laughed Warren. "I'll have to keep that in mind."

"I will try to avoid that if at all possible," he said, trying not to laugh. "I'd hate to go temporarily insane at my first dance. The impression I'd make would be poor."

"They might turn you away at the door at the prom?" Heaven forbid! "Maybe, since it was only temporary and all, the chaperones might see fit to give you a second chance. Think you can stay sane long enough to resist tossing me into the punch bowl, too?"
