Valentine's Day Dance | Town Hall | Saturday Evening [8pm on]

As Desperation Day dances went, this was probably not the most tacky ever.  Of course given that it was Desperation Day, so tacky really went with the territory.

There was glitter, oh, was there ever glitter in a multitude of sparkly colours.  But even more so, it seemed that the decorators had taken the 'Hearts Afire' theme literally as large cut out hearts adorned the walls.  Each with a tissue paper 'flame' bursting from the top of it.  Streamers in all shades of pink twisted across the ceiling, forming almost a canopy.  Which hopefully would not be literally set afire.  The Fire Department would probably disapprove of that. Also a lot of people's dresses would be ruined.

Let's stay away from any literal fire, okay, guys?

"You're such a girl," he said affectionately, laughing. "And I'm just teasing you. You can do whatever you want to do. But, usually you do want one specific thing when we come to these dances. I thought maybe you were greasing the wheels."

"You have other methods," he pointed out, raising an eyebrow. "Other methods where you cheat but that's neither here nor there."

Totally cheating. That was his story and he was sticking to it. And he was going to grin while doing so.

"I bet you were one of those girls who gave Valentine's Day cards to every single person you knew and got a ton back from all the boys."

"Everyone should get at least one Valentine's day card." Even if it was just from her. Very much a fan of sharing the love.

Yeah, that was probably just the sort of thing she'd do. "You never did that sort of thing?"

"Can you really see me giving out Valentine's Day cards?" he asked skeptically and shook his head before he could answer. "Not my thing. People gave 'em to me, I ate the candy and really never looked at the cards."

He was honest, at least!

"I've seen you do Valentine's things for me," she pointed out. They weren't even together this time last year, and she still got flowers. "I know you can get into the day, really."

"Well, you're kind of different," Hannibal said, blushing just a bit at being called out at that. "I mean, I'm not completely heartless but I don't go around giving stuff out to everyone. Gotta get my attention to get me to step up, I guess. You did. Still do."

Aww, it was fun to know she could still make him blush sometimes. "And it's been almost a year now." Only a couple of weeks short. "Which I can barely believe."

"You and me both," he said, letting a disbelieving laugh slip through. She wasn't the only one who didn't expect it to go this long. "Doesn't mean you're gonna go on Spring Break and get married again, right?"

Kidding, kidding. He felt pretty damn proud that he could joke about that now.

"No weddings," she promised. "One of those during high school was more than enough for me." And so long as she didn't get drunk enough to forget all that... Yeah, she'd be fine.

"Maybe," Angela agreed with a laugh. It wasn't one that drew an immediate 'hell no' at least. "What exactly counts as a hot tattoo for you anyway?" Their views on that sort of thing had a tendency to differ a little.

Yeah, Angela would definitely not be getting any guy's name tattooed on herself, even if she was drunk. It felt a little too much like naming property, and she hated that sort of mentality.

Yeaaaah, she had a lot of experience of that one and didn't bother to smother her own brief laugh. "I never tried to claim that was a 'little thing'," she pointed out. Big honking stupid thing, yes.
