Atlas Gym - Tuesday

Rose was in the midst of a serious if mental debate as she worked. For one thing, it distracted her from scrubbing all the stupid corners of the gym where little bits of gross dried mud and jello had ended up. Not to mention the little slicks of oil drops on the wall.

So yes, on one hand, there was really annoying stupid cleaning to be done, but on the other hand, the reason for the intensive clean had given her the opportunity to talk Dimitri into skipping out of Fight Club and finding their way back to his apartment. Which was way more amazing than she'd ever imagined.

The debate wasn't anywhere near being resolved, especially as Rose turned her attention to the the pile of mats that were next on the list to washed down. She made a face then refilled her bucket of soapy water to start on that project. It was amazing how the one time she'd've liked to see Jessi and make her do some of the chores, the annoying pink spandex girl was nowhere to be found. Typical.

"Did you gain an evil stepmother over the weekend?" Edmund asked, leaning as he often did against the nearest stable object. He looked far too amused at the sight of Rose scrubbing away.

Edmund should be watching out for the soapy rag that was coming at his face.

"Since I don't know my dad, that'd be hard," Rose snarked.

Edmund tried to side-step, but Rose was too quick for him and the rag ended up clipping him before dropping to the ground with a soggy slopping sound. "Well that was unnecessary," he said as he tried to brush the water off his shirt. "I only asked because I thought she might have you unfairly doing all of the chores."

And now she was sitting back on the mats and laughing at the wet spot on his shirt. "Nah, it was totally awesome," she said, still grinning. "If I could find the annoying chick who works here, I'd make her do half but then I'd have to listen to her talk. This is probably better."

"The blonde girl?" he asked, nodding as if he knew exactly what she was talking about.

"The blonde that's not Beka or that older chick Ashley, yeah," Rose said. "Jessi wears a lot of pink spandex."

She wouldn't be surprised if Edmund had noticed her. She didn't look bad in the pink spandex. Ho.

"I know the one you mean." Well, yes, pink spandex. It was hard not to notice. "Sometimes it's best to grin and bear the work than cope with your brain melting into something resembling porridge."

Rose smirked a little. It was funny when Edmund knew who she meant. Less so with Dimitri, yeah.

"Have a lot of experience with brain-porridge?" she asked.

Rose should be thrilled for the opportunity to do hard work well. That was certainly not a tiny smirk on Dimitri's face at the sight of her cleaning up, perish the thought.

"Need some help?" At least he was offering.

"From you?" she checked, sitting back as she turned to look up at him.

This was all his fault. Somehow.

He glanced around, looking for the pink terror. "It seems I'm the one offering. Hoping for someone else?" Hilarious, he was.

So funny she forgot to laugh. "Haven't seen anyone else around," Rose replied. She couldn't help smiling. "You can help me with the mats."

And if he got wet, oops?

"Thank you for allowing it," he teased, making his way over to her bucket to grab a rag.

Rose grinned and flicked some water at him. "I do what I can to help you feel useful," she teased back.

"And I appreciate it." Dimitri glanced down at the water spattering the front of his shirt. "Even if I end up soaked."

Jack wrinkled his nose when he walked in -- it felt like time for a visit -- and saw what Rose was up to. "They make you scrub here now?"

Jack hesitated, then nodded infinitesimally and rolled up his sleeves. "I could help if you wanted."

He'd need to change before Ronan's party anyhow.

Rose stood up in surprise. She was turning to him and half 'no, you shouldn't!' and half 'sure thing!'.

"If you really, really want to," she said finally.

Jack grinned. He might have offered in part to see if he could get a reaction like that.

"I've spent time in worse ways," he said, reaching for the cleaning supplies. "Don't look so shocked or I'll take the offer back. How'd it get like this, anyhow?"

She scowled a little at the grin, not totally sure he wasn't mocking her. "Fight Club," she said. "They were fighting in like jello and stuff this weekend, and it's not 'cleaned to the appropriate level'." Oh yes, the finger quotes were so in evidence.

And yet, she couldn't quite bring herself to hate that fact, no.

"I owe you like a drink or ice cream or something."

"They were fighting in jello?" Jack didn't get it, and it showed as he started scouring at a bit of dried red stuff. "That sounds ... like a practical use of time."

"Don't worry about it," he added. "Though I'll always take a drink. or ice cream."
