Tyler and Ghanima were both there early today, waiting for everyone to arrive.

"Good evening," she started, looking around the space. "Welcome back, and we're back to our randomly assigned pairs."

"Miss Dinah Lance and Miss Claire Bennet. Mr. Jono Starsmore and Miss Lulu. Jedi Tahiri and Miss Fa Mulan. If you do not already know each other, please introduce yourselves. You are partners for your fights this evening."

Tyler just rolled his eyes at Ghani's formality. "Jen, grab Blysse. Katarn and Hathaway, Mayor Summers and Blue Girl. Go to it."

Kyle stepped onto the mat and got just a little more stretching done before Rose was ready to fight.

Rose nodded to Kyle as she joined him on the mat. "Hey," she said. "I'm Rose. You ready?"

"Kyle." He raised his arms in a defensive stance and said, "Go ahead. Let's see what you've got."

She shrugged a little and then closed the distance between them with a snapped spin kick.

She'd seen him spar before. She didn't think it would land, but it was worth a shot.

It was a good first move, but nothing too tough. Kyle took a quick step to the side to dodge the kick, then spun quickly, aiming a spinning backhand at Rose's head.

She'd been expecting - something else. Don't ask her what, but Rose shifted so her arm came up fast enough to block the blow (and ow, that hurt) even if she was too focused on that to attack again.

Kyle followed up with a low kick to Rose's legs, just to see if he could knock her off balance.

Rose stumbled back as the kick connected just below her right knee. You'd think being short gave her an advantage at keeping her balance, but she took a few fumbling steps to find it again, still on the defensive.

Kyle hesitated long enough to make sure Rose was at least balanced before he took a couple strides forward and threw a jab at her shoulder.

Balanced and getting annoyed with just reacting, Rose thrust forward with one of those kicks she was good at,hoping to knock him back before the punch connected.

Rose was faster than Kyle expected, so he caught that kick right in the gut, ruining his punch and knocking the wind out of him as he stumbled back.

That was better. Rose followed her first kick up with a quick step forward and another higher kick aimed for his upper chest.

That kick connected as well, but Kyle used it to give him extra momentum for diving backwards into a roll. His shoulders hit the mat, but he flipped back onto his feet in an instant.

Okay, cool, on his part, and Rose closed again to try a quick two punches towards his chest.

Kyle staggered back a step with the first one, blocked the second, and recovered by bringing his back leg forward with a knee aimed at her gut.

The knee landed forcefully, and Rose was pushed back, trying to catch the breath that had been jolted from her.

Kyle followed up his advantage with a roundhouse kick. Since Rose wasn't that tall, he didn't even have to reach that high to aim for her head.

He was right, she wasn't that tall. Which made it easier for her to duck under his kick and try to sweep kick his balancing leg out from under him.

Well, Kyle was able to confirm that, yes, she was fast as he hit the ground. He quickly rolled to the side before trying to get up, hoping Rose wasn't quite quick enough to take advantage of him being on the ground.

Not nearly fast enough for that as Rose pushed back up to her feet, still catching her breath from the previous knee.

Kyle was back on his feet quickly. "Ready for some more?"

"Hell yes," Rose said instantly. Then added, trying to be polite. "If you are."

And then they sparred for a while longer.
