Tyler and Ghanima were both there early today, waiting for everyone to arrive.

"Good evening," she started, looking around the space. "Welcome back, and we're back to our randomly assigned pairs."

"Miss Dinah Lance and Miss Claire Bennet. Mr. Jono Starsmore and Miss Lulu. Jedi Tahiri and Miss Fa Mulan. If you do not already know each other, please introduce yourselves. You are partners for your fights this evening."

Tyler just rolled his eyes at Ghani's formality. "Jen, grab Blysse. Katarn and Hathaway, Mayor Summers and Blue Girl. Go to it."

"Enh." Dinah stretched her arms out behind her back, then cracked her neck, and headed for the mats. "You never know. Jon might have taught you sneaky-skills I don't know how to counter yet." At least with Claire's recovery time, Dinah didn't feel like she had to hold back either. She got into ready position, then grinned at Claire. "Take you best shot."

"Okay, okay," Claire said, shaking her arms a little to make sure her muscles were loose.

She stepped on the mat and made sure her knees were bent before throwing a kick aimed at Dinah's stomach.

Dinah dodged left, and aimed a blow at Claire's shoulder where she left herself open, then a feint to the right to see what Claire would do.

Claire took the hit to her shoulder but managed to shift her weight and use the momentum to throw a punch at Dinah's jaw.

"Not bad," Dinah noted. "Your recovery is better--" A kick to the knees, and a wince as the punched skidded along her jaw. "And so's your form." And another kick!

"Thanks," Claire said, managing to dodge the first kick but taking the second one to her thigh.

She threw a punch with her left hand at Dinah's stomach.

Dinah blocked it and diverted it down, then made a grab for Claire's wrist to pin her arm behind her back.

"Know how to get out of this yet?" she asked cheerfully.

Claire laughed.

"I think I might," she said, trying to stamp hard on Dinah's foot.

"Good start!" Dinah laughed, jumping back a little, dragging Claire with her. "Throw yourself backward, aim with your elbow too!"

Claire was fairly certain that most people she would end up fighting weren't going to give her tips, but she followed Dinah's instructions anyway.

She couldn't help it. Sure, she could've beaten Claire by now, but being totally aggressive, using height and weight and speed to get her down to stay down, would've been no fun at all. Dinah wasn't going easy on Claire, she just... kinda had to critique as she went.

She loosed Claire's arm and circled, arms back up, smiling, aiming a loose kick at the other girl's ankle.

The instructions were definitely appreciated and Claire managed to side-step the kick, throwing one of her own at Dinah's knee.

Dinah swerved, then had to dive forward like Hoshi had shown her ages ago, to pop up in Claire's personal space, punch stopping just under Claire's jaw. "Hi!"

Claire winced, expecting the punch to connect and she was surprised when Dinah stopped.

"Hi," she said. "You could have punched me. I totally deserved it for leaving myself open like that."

"You did," Dinah said, pointing at her, then sheepishly admitted, "I just have a hard time hitting someone as hard as I can." Bad habit to have. She shook her head, and took a couple steps back. "I'll hit you as hard as I can, but I'll show you that dive-roll when we're done, okay? I should be harder on you." Helena had always been way hard on her, and she lived through it, and she didn't even have super-healing.

"Sounds like a fair deal," Claire agreed.

Rather than wait for Dinah to respond, she lashed out with a side kick aimed at Dinah's knee.
