Fandom Fight Club -- Atlas Gym -- Sunday Evening

Tyler and Ghanima were both there early today, waiting for everyone to arrive.

"Good evening," she started, looking around the space. "Welcome back, and we're back to our randomly assigned pairs."

"Miss Dinah Lance and Miss Claire Bennet. Mr. Jono Starsmore and Miss Lulu. Jedi Tahiri and Miss Fa Mulan. If you do not already know each other, please introduce yourselves. You are partners for your fights this evening."

Tyler just rolled his eyes at Ghani's formality. "Jen, grab Blysse. Katarn and Hathaway, Mayor Summers and Blue Girl. Go to it."

[OCD is up!]

Jono wasn't rolling his shoulders so much as he was rolling his eyes.

Only today, it wasn't the usual 'oh, please' eyerolling that he tended to do. It was the sort of eyerolling that came hand-in-hand with the view, and generally involved a good deal of reminding oneself where one's opponent's face was located.

//Where I'm from, if yer take it easy on somebody, odds are they won't bother t'return th'favour when yer need it most. Anything I ought t'know before we get on with this?//

Lulu shook her head. "Nothing I can't just... not use," she explained.

She'd leave the matter of her speed and agility for the battle itself -- he could learn that the hard way. (Now if only she could land a punch...)

"And with you?"

Jono hesitated for a moment, and then gave his shoulders a shrug.

//More or less th'same,// he replied. And then, because she didn't seem to be freaking out about his voice at all, he added, //If any of th'bandages come loose, just... S'nothin' t'worry about, is all.//

It seemed easier to say that than to ask that she not punch him in the chest. Even if he now knew from experience that having a hand shoved inside of him was really no fun at all.

Lulu raised an eyebrow, but nodded. "It takes rather a lot to startle me," she advised. "Unless there's some actual danger to them coming loose?"

//Not if I can help it,// Jonothon replied, his tone more than a little firm, at that. //Might look it, but... No, no danger, unless I want there t'be.//

He'd make damn certain of that.

//If that's all, then perhaps we ought ter begin?//

Lulu nodded, settling into her usual fighting stance -- not a typical one, but the one she used to use for battles back in Spira, during the Pilgrimage. It was a decidedly casual stance, but Lulu had found herself having trouble with the more standard fighting stances. Going with the familiar seemed like a better option.

"Whenever you're ready," she said.

//Yer too kind,// he answered, and then he was moving toward her and swinging a fist for her...

... Shoulder. Yes. Her shoulder seemed safe.

This was bound to be a bloody awkward match.

A strike to Lulu's shoulder was easily dodged; Lulu took a step sideways then lashed out with a kick at Jono's shin.

... What? It was a valid, potentially debilitating move.

Not that Jono was aware, but shin-kicking was a special skill reserved for one and one alone, and though she was no longer a student here, that fact and that fact alone meant that this particular shin kick was destined to miss.

... Mostly because he lifted his own leg up and out of the way. But it was nice to think that it was a fate thing, really.

But, since his leg was up already, he might as well turn that move into something of a snap-kick toward Lulu's hip, right? Yes. Very good.

Under normal circumstances -- a battle back on Spira, for example, where Lulu was fighting with her spells -- that dodge would have been easy. Lulu was more than agile enough avoid that kick.

Unfortunately for Lulu, she wasn't fighting a) on Spira or b) with spells, and while considering the best way to strike out at Jono again, she wasn't paying enough attention to dodge quickly enough.

Which meant ow, that fucking hurt.

Lulu backed off a few steps, favoring that side for a moment as the sting of the kick passed. "Nice hit," she said coolly, circling around. "You won't get another."

... Sure, Lulu. You go on believing that.

//Mm, that'd make this one bloody boring spar, don't yer think?// Jono had his hands up and his feet on the floor, and he was eyeing her as she circled, carefully watching for any more moves on her part.

You didn't walk out of a London pub brawl in one piece if you didn't pay attention to what was going on, after all.

Lulu, with the bit of breathing space she'd allowed herself and Jono's careful watching of her, had an opportunity to plan her next more a little more carefully.

Even then, she's no great talent with her fists, so her punch at Jono's shoulder? Telegraphed to Hell and back.

Considering that fact, Jono almost felt bad lifting his arm to block the punch, and then throwing one of his own at her stomach.

Almost. Kind of.

[Random fact: This is my favourite icon only because it involves one of my characters punching another of my characters.]

[identity profile] mistressofblack.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Lulu moved out of the way of the punch, but not quite fast enough -- and because of the way she moved, ducking and turning, the punch caught her a glancing blow across her... big tracts of land.

Which had the added benefit of knocking the breath out of her, a bit, and she stumbled back.
furnaceface: (Told you so)

... Well. That was a particularly squishy sort of blow that Jono had been hoping to avoid.

//Bit of a pointer, luv? When yer tryin' not t'get hit, a better idea would be to keep th'more vulnerable parts of yer away from whatever's swingin' yer way.//

Helpful, Jonothon.

"When I want your advice, Mr. Starsmore," Lulu said, snarling, "I will ask you. Until then, kindly shut up."

That? Was an almighty bitchslap heading for Jono's face.
furnaceface: (As big a deal?)

Re: RNG Fight: Jono Starsmore & Miss Lulu

[personal profile] furnaceface 2010-03-22 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
... That? Was indeed a very mighty bitchslap. If Jono had more of a face, he might have even felt it.

As it stood, the recoil that happened there was more because emergency re-wrapping needed to happen before everyone in the room could see, and less because he had a glass jaw. It was difficult to have a glass one if you didn't have one at all.

Lulu blinked once at the sight of what Jono had under his bandages (even just the few flickers around the loosened bandages), but it wasn't like she hadn't seen her own share of odd things in her life.

Really, it wasn't any weirder than Yunalesca's hair (http://www.gamechoiceclub.com/image/merch_yunalesca.gif). (Even before it turned into a mass of snakes.)

As he was rewrapping, Lulu followed up the slap with a kick to Jono's thigh.

And now Jonothon was faced with a difficult decision. Finish wrapping and let himself be kicked, or drop the bandages a moment and risk them being jostled further for the sake of avoiding more harm.

It wasn't an easy decision to make. And his thigh was going to absolutely hate him in the morning. His eyebrows furrowed at the impact, and his leg actually buckled a bit, but he didn't move.

//Better get all yer best hits in now, then. Easy target for another... fifteen seconds or so,// he bitched grumbled while he tucked in things that had never been intended to come untucked.

Lulu briefly considered taking him up on it, but she stepped back instead, shaking her head. "Take your time," she said. "If you need it."

Jono gave her a weird little sideways look, and then nodded, taking the opportunity to smooth down the leather strapping and to make certain that it was in place at least a little more securely than it had been before.

//Thanks,// he said as he pulled them tight and secure over a face that wasn't really there. //I... owe yer one.//

For letting him have a moment. For not causing a scene. For whatever.
