The Boards - Richard III, CLOSING NIGHT - Thursday evening

Now was the winter of their discontent... The last night of Richard III was starting very soon. Still no sign of their errant Director, but Tony seemed to have everything well in hand. Sophie had counted up receipts from Tuesday, and they were doing quite well. The students had certainly given it their all on Tuesday night.

And Geoffrey may have cast them, encouraged them, and directed them, but everyone in the theater tonight had their own reasons for wanting this last evening of the play to go well.

"Thirty minutes, everyone. Our Stage Manager says places in thirty."

[OCD on its way up!]

"You were excellent," Sookie all but squealed when she found Karla outside the theater. "I don't know how you didn't trip over all those words, but you were so, so good!"

"Lots and lots of practice!" Karla explained, going to give Sookie a quick hug. "And thank you! I think everyone gave it their all tonight--it was the last production for so many seniors."

Wibble.

"Well, it showed," Sookie gushed, hugging her. "It was fantastic. And tense. I had no idea theater could be like that!"

Karla laughed. "Your Lord Shakespeare--for all that he clearly knows nothing about witches--does have an impressive way with words," she agreed. "There have been some scenes where I'm biting my nails as I watch. And Sam and Dinah were fantastic!"

"I was kinda scared of Sam," Sookie agreed, wide-eyed. "I've never said that before! He's like a big puppy!"

"And a very gifted actor," Karla said, nodding. "The way he just kind of...menaced his way across the stage! And him seducing Anne over the casket?" She lowered her voice. "I've always thought he was attractive but that scene really, uhh...how did you say it?...revved my engines?"

Sookie had to giggle, blushing. "Yeah, exactly. I'm sorta glad I came by myself, 'cause...yeah." She made a little show of fanning herself. "Goodness me, Sam. Gifted actor indeed."

Karla hadn't full realized it, but she'd developed a kind of bad boy fascination and this certainly hadn't helped it any.

But she wasn't about to let that get in the way of good gossip. "Came by yourself?" she asked, raising her eyebrow at Sookie. "Is there someone who shouldn't see you fanning yourself over Sam?"

Tell, tell, tell, Sookie.....

"Um. Well," and oh, now there was more blushing, though this was a different sort. "Bobby and I are kinda seeing one another, and while I strongly think I should be allowed to fan myself over whoever I want, doing it in front of the brand-new boyfriend might not be the most tactful thing, you know?"

Karla squealed, just the tiniest bit at the news. "Of course you can!" she declared a moment later, even as she was grinning like a loon. "Though, agreed, not as tactful as you could be. But if someone instigates a fanning, well, it's hardly fair not to, right?"

Oh, Karla-logic. It made sense--if you squinted.

"Still, Bobby! That's so great! He's such a nice male, I'm glad!" And friends with George. As she was with Sookie. Look at those wheels turning in Karla's mind.

Karla's enthusiasm was kind of adorable, Sookie thought. "It'd be insulting to not fan when called to," she agreed, before adding, "And thank you. It's new. Um, how're things with you and George? He's so sweet -- I'm happy for you."

Give her a second -- she'd get to those wheels, too. Sookie just had next to no experience with dating, let alone double-dating.

To be fair, so far Karla's experience with the whole double-dating thing was limited to teevee shows and conversations with other girls.

"Things are going very well," she said, trying not to blush. "He came tonight and surprised me with my very favoritest flowers. I don't even know how he knew what they were--though I'm betting Emma's involved, somehow."

Wasn't she always?

[identity profile] justwantsquiet.livejournal.com 2010-04-23 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
"If you think Emma's involved, she probably was," Sookie noted wisely, kicking herself for not thinking to bring flowers to the cast. She'd forgotten that was a thing. "And that's so cute! You totally deserved flowers, and that's adorable of him to think to get you some -- Emma's prompting or no."

Karla gave Sookie a happy smile. "Either way, I'm really happy about it," she said, trying not to bounce around. "If you'd like, you can tell me your favorite flowers, and I'll pass that information on to Bobby sometime--subtly, of course."

Well, as subtle as Karla got, anyway.

"It's the Sisterly thing to do."

Re: Outside the Theater

[identity profile] justwantsquiet.livejournal.com 2010-04-23 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Sookie arched a brow. "I'm not sure that's totally necessary," she said, turning red again and grinning. "For one thing, I'm not sure subtlety works on him. He's one of those where I think you need to hit him with a cluebat a few times. But, um, I don't expect him to get me flowers unless he wants to! And I won't be sad if he never does, or anything."

She paused, and added, "Daffodils. They grow all over the place at home."

Re: Outside the Theater

[personal profile] glacial_queen 2010-04-23 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't suggest him actually getting you flowers or anything," Karla assured her. "Just, you know, if he's not sure what kind to get or something, I can nudge him in the right direction."

With said cluebat, if necessary.

[identity profile] justwantsquiet.livejournal.com 2010-04-23 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
"And if you want me to nudge George about anything," Sookie replied, grinning, "I can return the favor. Flowers are clearly taken care of, though."
glacial_queen: (Bright Smile)

Re: Outside the Theater

[personal profile] glacial_queen 2010-04-23 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
"No nudging required," Karla said, hoping that the lights outside of the theater were making her look slightly less red than she felt. "Everything's going really well. Really, really well," she amended, grinning like an idiot.

"How long's it been for you two?" Sookie asked, trying to think back over what she'd heard on the radio.

"Ummm...it's kind of hard to tell?" Karla said, shrugging a bit. "We were Homecoming Prince and Princess for the freshmen and really hit it off. And then he visited my booth at the carnival...but I don't think we made it official until around spring break?"

She chuckled a bit. "So, umm, awhile I guess. A lot longer than I'd thought, really."
