Graduation Weekend Brunch | Early Afternoon | Sunday | May 2

With the ceremony completed and the graduated officially done with their high school careers, a brunch had been planned to celebrate the occasion and allow graduates, their guests, and the other inhabitants of the island to enjoy some good food and good conversation outside. The weather was warm and the sky was clear.

Fraser had been busy helping set up since the early morning hours. Apparently, Dean Stinson had gone a little overboard with some of the food, particularly the cake. The huge sheet cake arrived via truck and, where Fraser thought he'd be able to carry it, ended up having to use a forklift to get it to the park. From there, it took several people to lift the cake onto a table of its own. It was that big. Fraser hoped everyone enjoyed and hoped everyone was prepared to take a lot of cake home.

There were also several other tables of food and drinks, ready to be enjoyed. There were tables and chairs situated around the park, covered by tents to keep it from becoming too warm.

And there was cake. Please don't forget the cake.

[Mingling | Food | Tables and Chairs | Edges of the Park | OOC | OCD is up! Post is open to EVERYONE! Have fun!]

"You know, a simple card would be just as well for most of us. Maybe some flowers. It really doesn't need to go all out like that." Yes, Savannah was still grinning like a loon.

"I wonder what the island's writing would look like?" she mused whimsically. "Quite possibly a mess that's unreadable."

Savannah giggled. "Well, maybe we'd need to hire a translator to decipher it."

"We could ask Hoshi-san," Hinata said decisively. "I do not believe there is a language she cannot figure out--even if it is from an island, not a person."

Savannah was grinning again. "It would be a challenge and service to future Fandom graduates."

"Precisely! How could she resist?"

"I know that I wouldn't be able to if I was as skilled as she is. Plus, added bonus of undying gratitude from legions of graduates!"

"Who would possibly be willing to offer their services, if needed, as payment." Hinata grinned a bit. "Hoshi-san would never have to solve an issue on her own again, if she did it that way."

"And for the freedom from humiliation or embarrassment at their graduation, they probably would be happy and relieved to volunteer." She was laughing. "Hoshi would always have assistants she could call on!"

"I know I would be," Hinata confessed. "To get out of something like that? It is a small price to pay."

Savannah nodded. "I certainly would have volunteered rather than go through that."

"Will it cause a great many problems with your family?" she asked, frowning slightly. "About the oddities? Some families know nothing of Fandom."

"Not now that they know I was really in no real danger," Savannah said with a smile. "My family has several oddities of their own." She sighed, shaking her head. "No, the problems with my family will be caused more by this --" She pointed to her ring. "-- than by anything in the ceremony yesterday."

She considered her words for a moment, not sure how to say what she was thinking and have it come across properly.

"I do hope they'll come around," she settled on. "Love is too important to waste while fighting family."

"I hope so too," she said quietly. "They think I'm too young, but they don't understand how much we've been through together in three years or how much he loves me."

"It can be hard, I think," Hinata said, speaking carefully. "To know how someone has grown and changed when you only see them a few times a year. I imagine time to see those changes might help."

[identity profile] walks-two-paths.livejournal.com 2010-05-02 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"I hope so," Savannah said quietly. "The family is just a little over-protective."

If by "little" you means "sometimes insanely"...

She glanced sideways at her. "All the m-more reason to prove their fears wrong, then."

Savannah nodded. "If they'll listen to me. But yeah, he's a good guy and I need to show them that this is the best thing for me. Besides, he makes me happy."

"All things in time, right?" she laughed softly. "I believe you'll manage it--I can't picture you not."

She smiled at Hinata. "Thank you. I appreciate your belief in that for me."
