With the ceremony completed and the graduated officially done with their high school careers, a brunch had been planned to celebrate the occasion and allow graduates, their guests, and the other inhabitants of the island to enjoy some good food and good conversation outside. The weather was warm and the sky was clear.

Fraser had been busy helping set up since the early morning hours. Apparently, Dean Stinson had gone a little overboard with some of the food, particularly the cake. The huge sheet cake arrived via truck and, where Fraser thought he'd be able to carry it, ended up having to use a forklift to get it to the park. From there, it took several people to lift the cake onto a table of its own. It was that big. Fraser hoped everyone enjoyed and hoped everyone was prepared to take a lot of cake home.

There were also several other tables of food and drinks, ready to be enjoyed. There were tables and chairs situated around the park, covered by tents to keep it from becoming too warm.

And there was cake. Please don't forget the cake.

"It seems like a vicious cycle," she noted, "always with good food and then too much exercise just to get rid of it."

Oh, like she was one to talk about too much exercise. She got up at four every morning for training.

"It works pretty well for me though," he pointed out, leaning back. "I mean, I am pretty, right?"

"I don't know..." she said, tapping her cheek thoughtfully and looking dubiously at him.

"I'd offer to strip and show you but I think that's more of a next weekend activity," he teased easily.

"Definitely a next weekend activity," she agreed, grinning. "I already have my bikini picked out 'case someone tries to get me to take off my shirt if I want them to take theirs off."

Ino had practice at this, you understand.

"And, fine, I wouldn't say pretty but you've got a certain appeal."

"Irresistible appeal," Hannibal filled in for her but grinned anyway. "How are you doing, Ino? Good weekend all things considered?"

"All things considered, I'm surviving it," she said, very dryly and a bit amused. "Be a bit pathetic if I didn't, you know?"

Ignore the fact that she'd hid in her room yesterday and refused to go to the ceremony. That was totally surviving it.

"I hear you all had a bit of fun yesterday, though." She was not above dodging the question.

"Yeah," Hannibal said, rolling his eyes at that. "You missed me singing. Big moment, Ino! A full song in front of everyone. My parents took about seven hundred pictures."

"Are they still here?" she asked.

Innocently.

Really!

"They haven't left yet," Hannibal replied, making a face. "They're somewhere in the crowd, probably showing off my baby pictures."

Ino laughed.

"I don't suppose you'd be kind enough to point them out to me?" she asked merrily.

"Not happening," he said quickly, shaking his fork at her. "If you wanna meet them that badly, you're gonna have to find them on your own."

"I could go ask Angela," she pointed out, smiling. "Bet she's met them, all things considered. Bet she'd tell me who they were, too."

"She actually hasn't met them," he said and winced. "She's meeting them today at some point. Big first meeting!"

Ino cringed sympathetically at that. "And you're not with her?"

"My parents are...special," he said and meant that affectionately. "They're not going to grill her. They're going to tease me."

"Ahhh." Ino nodded and had to grin. "I can see why you'd want to absent yourself for that."

"They're pretty okay," he said, shrugging. "I think I like 'em better this way than being overbearing and controlling over my life."

"I wasn't sayin' that," she said patiently. "I was sayin' that I can see why you wouldn't want to be 'round for them to tease you to your girlfriend. Be a bit much for your delicate ego to take."

"Hey, I could tak-- " He paused and made a face. "Yeah, I probably couldn't take it. I'd get all defensive and stomp off."

She leaned forward to try and bop him lightly on the nose.

"At least you can admit it? And spare yourself a grumpy mood."

"Hey, I wouldn't get grumpy, I'd get revenge," he said and waggled his eyebrows.

"How would you get revenge?" she asked lightly. "Spill!"

"And have you possibly spill to my parents or Angela?" Hannibal asked, shaking his head. "Not even."

"Don't you trust me? I'm hurt."

And pulling out puppy eyes. Because she could.
