Graduation Weekend Brunch | Early Afternoon | Sunday | May 2

With the ceremony completed and the graduated officially done with their high school careers, a brunch had been planned to celebrate the occasion and allow graduates, their guests, and the other inhabitants of the island to enjoy some good food and good conversation outside. The weather was warm and the sky was clear.

Fraser had been busy helping set up since the early morning hours. Apparently, Dean Stinson had gone a little overboard with some of the food, particularly the cake. The huge sheet cake arrived via truck and, where Fraser thought he'd be able to carry it, ended up having to use a forklift to get it to the park. From there, it took several people to lift the cake onto a table of its own. It was that big. Fraser hoped everyone enjoyed and hoped everyone was prepared to take a lot of cake home.

There were also several other tables of food and drinks, ready to be enjoyed. There were tables and chairs situated around the park, covered by tents to keep it from becoming too warm.

And there was cake. Please don't forget the cake.

[Mingling | Food | Tables and Chairs | Edges of the Park | OOC | OCD is up! Post is open to EVERYONE! Have fun!]

"You're never finishing that," Han warned, taking a seat across from her.

"No, probably not, but it was really tempting," she said, offering him the extra fork she'd picked up.

He took it, but wasn't that interested in the cake. As it was he expected someone to be shoving pieces at all the guests as they left in an attempt to get rid of it. "You're down here early."

"The mass exodus of people starts the day after graduation," she explained. "I figured maybe there were people I'd want to say goodbye to, so I could hang out for a while."

"You know there's a fix for that," Han said, oh so subtly. "There's still room on the Falcon. I'd even let you copilot."

It was very tempting, to just say kriff it and pack up her things and take off. But she'd put a lot of thought into her decision, and it was still a hard one, but she had to believe she was doing the right thing for herself. "I know," she said with a little rueful smile. "But I haven't changed my mind. I'm going to stay."

Of course she was. "I don't get it, Jaina," he sighed. "You hate this place. And it's not like the kid with the hair is staying."

"He's not exactly a kid anymore, Dad," Jaina pointed out. What with the being twenty-nine and divorced.

Jaina bit her lip, and tried to find the right words for this. "It's not about him," she said. It'd started out as that, it'd just kind of morphed into being something else. "You know how you talk about how you joined up with the Rebellion not even really meaning to, and every time you'd go to leave something would keep you around?"

"Of course," Han shrugged. "I wouldn't be where I am if I hadn't."

And he thought he might get it now.

"It's sort of the same thing for me. I don't like it here. But when I think about the things that I'd have missed out on if I'd just left any of the times I wanted to... I wouldn't be the person I am today," Jaina explained.

And she meant that. It wasn't even that she would have missed out on meeting John, or getting back together with him, it was learning how to relax some and not being completely taken over by a war and knowing her grandfather and learning to deal at least somewhat with her brother's death...

"I don't know if this is the Force guiding me or just me being curious as to what's next, but I don't want to miss whatever it is. Don't I always know what I'm doing?"

"No," Han said bluntly. "I've seen some of the crazy stuff you do."

Jaina gave him a lopsided smile. "Trust me on this one."
