John had decimated the population of the world five times before he headed to the bar, phone to his ear as he explained how effective the Rodney pandemic virus had been. "No, it's not multiplayer." He waved at Tino for a beer as he sat down, making faces at no one present.

"No, it's not better than our game." He rolled his eyes. As if disease was as cool as running dueling civilizations. "Yes, I'm sure they're doing fine without us."

He paused, eyebrow lifting. "No."

"No."

"Did you hear me say no twice?" John snorted, somehow smiling despite the exchange. "I'm hanging up now." At least Tino was quick with that beer.

"No, it's supposed to get you drunk," he replied. "And then you can be mean to me."

"I don't get drunk anymore," she warned, pulling the shot toward her and considering it anyway.

"I don't get drunk any less." Yeah, he thought he was pretty entertaining tonight.

"I noticed. Can I get a water, since you're back there?" Once the drink was in front of her, she found it easier to take it rather than say no, but if she moderated herself it'd be fine.

"Do I get something for providing this water?" Since water was so lame and all.

"My company," she replied easily. "And me doing a shot without a fight."

"I like this lack of fight idea," he grinned, getting her water and leaning his elbows on the counter. "So, did you and the squirrels have a wild time after radio?"

"Oh, yeah, they took me to this raging underground party. Didn't get home till 0600," she replied, downing the shot easily, even if it meant making a face. She could still deal with this better than scotch somehow.

He watched her down the shot and refilled her glass instantly. "Yeah? How come I wasn't invited?"

"It was late, I figured you were already in bed. I notice I have a new shot," she said.

"You really are perceptive," John teased. "It's fascinating."

"Why do I have a new shot?" she asked. "Besides 'your glass was empty.'"

John made a face at her stealing his line. "Because it's a bar, and there's a tequila special tonight."

She might have looked a little smug at stealing his line. "Oh, really. What's the special?"

"It's free and I'm pouring it," he said, meeting her gaze and immediately wishing he hadn't. "Decided as soon as you walked in."

Jaina sort of wished he hadn't, too. Not that she was looking away at all. "So you decided on the special because the mostly non-drinker walked in?" she asked.

"That's right. I'll even drink with you," he offered, thinking somehow that might help him not do anything completely stupid. "If you want, of course."

She didn't think she could really tell him no on that. And his tolerance had to be a lot higher than hers. She wasn't even sure what hers was anymore, so hitting a good stopping point shouldn't be hard. "It's your special and you're pouring," she pointed out. She'd just sip her water before she even thought about a second shot.

"It sounds easy, but I can see in your eyes you're going to make this difficult for me," John pointed out. Not that he had a goal...he just missed her being fun and free.

Yeah, she kind of missed her being that, too. "When have I ever made things easy for you?" she countered with a smirk.

John reached out to grab up her hand with both of his as he leaned over the counter. "I thought I was the difficult one here."

That was unexpected, and definitely reminded her that she'd really sort of missed things like his hands. Biting back a comment about him being the easy one, she asked, "What, so I can't take a turn being difficult sometimes?"

"No," John shook his head, letting his hands massage over hers. He really was the easy one, but he'd never own to it.

She really should tell him to stop, but there was that whole thing where she didn't want him to. They were never easy anymore, that was for sure. "What if I want to be difficult?" she asked instead.

"Nah, you don't want to." Look how he could see about having his own Jedi mind trick to use on her. Maybe if he focused really hard...
