Homecoming Carnival Post I | Park | Friday | October 22

In keeping with this year’s Homecoming theme, the carnival was decorated in all shades of blue, teal, turquoise and green. There were fish bowls on each table, under the sea murals painted on the sides of booths and fountains dotting the perimeter of the park.

The carnival was in full swing. The smells of carnival foods were wafting throughout town and the sounds of rides and different games could be heard from all corners. It was Homecoming weekend and the student council hopes you have a great time!

"Better than mine," Karla muttered, scuffing her toe against the grass. "Seemed to be the case with most of the males-turned-females."

Not that Karla was pouting! At all!

Jack cleared his throat, realizing this discussion was going nowhere good.

"How was the trip until then?"

It was enough to have Karla perk back up again. "Good," she said cheerfully. "I spent lots of time skiing and generally playing out in the snow. It reminded me of home, actually, all snow and forests and mountains. Add in a loch or two and I would have been convinced we were in Glacia!"

"I almost wish I had gone with you," Jack said idly, reaching out to swipe a cookie from one of her many plates. "I haven't seen snow like that very often, but I like it."

"It gets boring the third or so month of it," Karla said with the authority of someone who lived in a Territory named Glacia, "but for a week? It was a lot of fun. Emma had fun skiing, too."

"She didn't break anything, or turn to diamond and startle people?" Jack checked. "I saw her for a moment. She seems recovered from her sister's visit."

"No, none of that," Karla said, going a bit stony-faced at the mention of Emma's sister. Who Emma still refused to talk about. "We shared a room and it was all just fun and relaxation. Till the turning male thing."

Jack could guess why Karla's face had gone stony, and he nodded imperceptibly in recognition. Adrienne deserved every stony face in the book, in Jack's opinion.

"Good," he said. "You both need fun and relaxation, and I'm glad she had someone in the room to look out for her."

Karla didn't even know about Adrienne, save what was said on the radio! Emma was keeping secrets again.

"Does that mean you'll support my plan to kidnap Emma and the giant trampoline and bring them back to Glacia with me?" Karla asked, glancing up at him. "Fux and relaxation, I promise!"

"You can kidnap Emma and feed her honey pears any time you want," Jack answered. "It might be a trifle hard to get a giant trampoline through a portal."

"I'll let her know I had your permission next time she complains about an economy exam or something," Karla teased. "And as for the trampoline, well, I have a plan."

First, she just needed to see if she could vanish something that big...
