"Settled in?" Rosalind asked, looking for clarification.

"It took me, well, months to really get comfortable on the Island," Triela explained. Six or seven, actually.

That was... interesting.

"Why?"

Triela shrugged. "It's a big adjustment." When you're used to living in what amounts to a military camp.

"I suppose," she said, a bit dubiously.

"I take it that it wasn't for you," Triela shrugged.

"It was different," she replied. "But when there is no option but to adjust..."

"Well, you can always choose to cope rather than adjust," Triela pointed out. That's what she'd had to do for a while there.

"Which means about the same thing when you're living in the midst of it."

"Adjusting implies changing yourself," Triela pointed out. Even if she didn't sound entirely sure about it.

"I disagree," Rosalind replied. "It means giving yourself time to mentally incorporate the new stimuli."

"Doesn't that involve change?" Triela returned, honestly curious to hear Rosalind's answer.

"You're still who you are," she said dryly. "Do you change with every textbook you read?"

Triela considered that. "Rarely."

"Consider then, a new situation as a textbook," she said dryly. "Informative, potentially useful, but otherwise you remain as you were."

"Hmm..."

Triela considered that.

"That sounds a bit simplistic."

"Everything starts that way," she said, with a shrug. "And nothing covers every contingency."

"Oversimplification can be dangerous," Triela pointed out. Not that she didn't think Rosalind already knew that.

"So can over-thinking a situation," she retorted.

"True." Triela nodded thoughtfully.
