Karla & Warren's Almost-Summer (and Super-Early Birthday) Celebration, The Preserve, All Day Sunday

Due to any number of factors, Karla and Warren had been planning to celebrate their shared birthday a little early this year. They didn't want to interfere with people's graduation or vacation plans, as a last hurrah before finals, making sure their off-island friends would be able to attend mun failure at remembering her own character's birthday, all of these had convinced them to throw their birthday party a few days before it actually occurred. As a party, it was intended to be just as much of a celebration of the approaching end of the semester as a birthday party.

What they hadn't intended was the entire island turning into small children over that same weekend. It was a good thing that credit cards and bank accounts had already been charged before hand, or things might have gotten really awkward. As it was, the company hired to make sure the party went off without a hitch got to Fandom, set-up, and drove off before realizing that anything was amiss.

Which was probably for the best, as it meant they didn't have to watch their equipment become slowly transformed into kidlet-appropriate games and activities by Fandom's magic. What had been a party setup designed to appeal to a bunch of jaded teens had become a brightly-colored wonderland of kids' toys.

Don't worry, though. There was still cake.

Arrive and Mingle

It was a party! What else are you supposed to do? Also while you're arriving and mingling, help yourself to all sorts of kid-friendly foods: mini-pizzas, sandwiches (lots of PB&J), milk, juice, and some soda, chicken nuggets, the works!

There was even a small carnival stand where kids could get cotton candy, candy apples, kettle corn, and ice cream!

Warren was standing on the edges, wearing a coat that was probably a little too heavy for the season, and staring wide-eyed at all of the stuff. He was a Worthington, so it wasn't as though he'd never seen stuff before, but he'd been a bit of a shut-in over the past year, so this was a whole lot to take in all at once.

And also, it was totally awesome.

Raven found that her presents for Karla and Warren had been transformed, but she hoped they'd still like them.

She sat off to the side to enjoy some cotton candy and watch the children and make sure no one hurt themselves falling off a ride or an elephant.

Jan had never seen food like this, and had hardly ever seen this much food all in one place.

Once he'd watched the other children long enough to figure out it was all right, he set to eating as many cookies, sandwiches and chicken nuggets as a determined 5-year-old could hold. A few were making their way into his pockets for later, too.

On the way to the party, Jason had come across a shiny red bucket. To a grown up, it probably wouldn't have been anything special, but to Jason, it was an awesome superhero helmet. He put the bucket on his head, feeling himself stand up straighter at how awesome he felt.

At least, until he walked into a tree. There might have been a slight lack of foresight in using something without eye holes as a helmet.

Yeah, as if Bobby was going to be anywhere else but here. And loading up a plate of food, which may have been slightly favoring the sugary sorts of selections available. Slightly.

Emma had her presents for Karla and for Warren.

She quickly ditched them in the nearest pile of presents to go right for a mini-pizza, soda, and a candy apple. Emma loved her friends, but she also had priorities. Namely, food that Daddy would never let her eat at home! Candy apples were special treats, but pizza and soda? Forget it!

Sookie had already gotten presents for both Karla and Warren. That being said, though, she wasn't going to hand over anything that nice to small children.

So she showed up, making sure to find herself a spot to sit where she could keep an eye on the kids. She wasn't joining in the festivities, of course, as she was still seventeen, but it seemed negligent not to go and make sure no one maimed themselves or something.

Katniss (and the very small owl that was Wesley) came traipsing into the party happily. As far as presents went, Katniss had found a bunch of flowers for Karla, and a very interesting stick for Warren! She was sure they would love them, since they were exactly the kind of presents that she she would want.

It was a party! So of course Kennedy was there. She'd tried to bring Bailey along, but the rabbit was having none of that and refused to come out from under the bed. (He might have been pretty traumatized from his person and his person's person, the ones he was still getting used to anyway, being a lot smaller and a lot huggier than usual.)

So that was a disappointment, but not enough to damp Kennedy's enthusiasm about PARTY PARTY PARTY.

She'd already had a lot of chicken nuggets and pizza, and had a giant cotton candy bag in one hand and a soda in the other.

Uh oh.

This whole weekend had been a big old bout of deja vu for Dolf thusfar. Arriving at Karla's party was a surreal experience as a result.

Mostly, the decidedly still-fifteen-year-old Dolf would be standing over here looking equal parts amused and discombobulated.

Tamara (or the pudgy little puppy at her feet) didn't recognize most of the food being offered, but that was okay, because it all smelled very good and so she was going to try a bit of everything.

Ender had only a vague idea as to why he felt compelled to come here to begin with, and he wasn't sure he liked it. He stared at the food with barely-repressed wariness, and stuck near the edges of the party. Observing, trying to figure out what patterns of behaviour were expected, here.

He couldn't find much in this herd of children that he felt at all connected to.

To be honest, Will didn't entirely intend to end up here. He'd been playing near the stream, and then there'd been the sounds of other children laughing, and then... well, he'd stumbled across the party. Now that he was here, though, he wouldn't be leaving for some time.

Proving that some things never changed, Karla was wandering around with a cotton candy in one hand, a candy apple in the other, and was trailing a pizza and two sandwiches behind her. The floating food spent a lot of time wobbling because she wasn't all that good with Craft yet, but as long as it didn't fall onto the ground, Karla was counting it as a win.

"It's my birfday! It's my birfday!" No it really wasn't, but Karla wasn't going to let that stop her.

She actually stood there for a moment, starry eyed at everything and trying to decide what to do first.

Elephant & Pony Rides

Climb up and ride around a ring on either an elephant or a pony! There's also hay and feed for them if you want to make friends later.

On most days Dana would be completely exploding with joy that there was a pony, but today? There was an el-e-phant.

She bounced frantically in line, pointing at it and singing, "El-e-phant ride, el-e-phant ride, el-e-phant ride!"

Petting Zoo

If riding an elephant isn't enough, there's a whole petting zoo set up, filled with lots of baby animals. Lots of different moddable animals to pet, play with, and feed if you want to.

Play nice, now! Even docile animals nip!

Apparently, playing with Bailey and Mr. Moxy the day before hadn't been enough time with animals for Tara, because she was crouched beside the pen of baby lambs, eagerly offering them a handful of grain.

And another handful.

And -- look, they were going to be very, very fat lambs if no one distracted her.

Face Paint & Henna Station

No tattoos yet without grown-up approval, but you can still experiment with decorations either in the form of bright face and body paint or with henna designs.

The best part about henna? It lasts for weeks. Show everyone what a cool kid you are with your long lasting henna designs!

After getting her face painted in an appropriately Glacian style, Karla decided to get henna designs all over her arms and legs. She was going to be SO EXCITED to wake up tomorrow morning.

Rides!

There are a few kid-appropriate rides here, including a bouncy castle, a kiddie roller coaster, swings, a bumper car pavilion, a few other moddable rides, and, of course, a carousel.

Stephanie couldn't really fly (she secretly knew that even if she kept hoping) but bouncing in the castle was kind of close. It was fun, anyway.
