Mystery Sign Theater, Sunday

After getting a decent night's sleep at his place, Mitchell was up bright and early to direct the workers around the theater. Between the sleep and last night's visit to the Nest, he was in a reasonable mood, and not nearly as irritable as he often was coming back from Bristol.

"Christ, they got this straight out of a film, didn't they?" he said philosophically to the worker putting up the sign at the front. He was staring at the city in the distance.

The worker just shrugged.

"It feels like a double bill sort of day."

"Kate!" Mitchell said, sitting up. "Sorry. How was your-- funeral."

Her answer was a predictably dry drawl. "Sad. Depressing. Kind of unnecessary too, since Nathan is apparently immortal."

"Yeah," she sighed, flopping down into a chair. "He showed up this Monday, entirely... as he was."

"...And do we have any idea what he is, then?" Mitchell asked. "Because if he's a vampire, that's pushing your record a bit."

"He's not a vampire, he has a pulse." A beat. "yes, that was my first thought too. It's why I took my knife with me to see him. Apparently he's just immortal."

"I love how just immortal is a thing now," Mitchell muttered. Dryly.

"Yeah, well..." What could you do? SShe shrugged. "Apparently there was a storm or something."

She... hadn't really been listening to much of Nathan's babling, honestly.

Jack showing up: Slightly less inevitable, but far from the shocker of all time.

"So which one is Edge Sprinter?" he asked so late that I suspect this is fated to be SP. "Other than the one that doesn't seem to have a drunk monkey in it. And hello."

"The second one," Mitchell said, distractedly. "It's a classic."

Far less distractedly, he added, a second later, "Jack! Hey."

"Hey yourself," Jack answered, giving Mitchell a once-over that took in whether he looked like he was facing imminent demise. (He didn't remember that detail of the reunion weekend himself, but it was hard not to be a bit concerned after what Kate had told him.)

He decided the answer was no more so than usual before speaking again. "Summer job on the island," he explained. "How have you been?"

"A bit busy," Mitchell said, leaning back in his chair. "Come on in, grab some coffee, you're the one who's been absent."

Jack helped himself to a mug before sitting down. "I have, but nothing's changed from what I can tell except there are scads of new people again," he said. "School is school. I'm supposed to send in my very last final soon, and then I'm free of it for a bit."

"And so you're loitering 'round here for the summer," Mitchell concluded. "Remind me to buy you a pint, you're not a student anymore."

"Buy me a pint sometime," Jack repeated obligingly. "... I haven't been a student for a year! And I've been of age longer than that."

Not by the actual laws of the country he was in, but that was a detail.

"Yes, anyhow. Loitering here seems to mean I'll miss less."

"Hey, it's different when you move back onto the island," Mitchell said. A beat. "You know, now you're moving in as an adult."

Yeah, this term ends next week, and half the Nero group is currently in a rush to finish items and articles and whatnot to go up on the site and owwww, my brain.

I never thought I'd be resentful over the fact we get three days off at the end of the week. I'm all CAN'T JUST STAY AT HOME, MUST DO INTERVIEWS AND FINISH ARTICLE AND KICK MY PARTNER'S ASS SO HE FINALLY EDITS OUR LAST TWO VIDEO ITEMS TOGETHER.
