Caritas | Saturday Evening
Chuck was doing an excellent job blocking out the chittering of annoying teenage girls. Basically it took a lot of scotch and knowing that if things got too annoying he could go back into the office and lock the door. But for now he was sitting behind the bar, watching what was going on out of the corner of his eye and smacking Tino with his cane if he refused to do something Caroline or her redneck-voiced little friend asked him to do.
Tino looked miserable. That made the party worth it already.

Re: Lounge
"I'm Miley. I... have totally seen your face somewhere, sorry."
Re: Lounge
Re: Lounge
"Nice to meet you," she said, shaking his hand. "I read about you! You're, like, famous! We probably know some of the same people. I mean, I'm not famous, but I go to parties and stuff because my dad's famous, and hey, maybe I've seen you around and haven't noticed it!"
...Cute boys made her stuttery. Sorry, Jeremy.
Re: Lounge
"Man, no one here knows who I am," he said, grinning at her a bit. "Who's your dad, amybe I know him?"
Re: Lounge
It felt weird to be bragging about her dad for a change, but the real reason she went to celebrity parties was so not mentionable here.
Re: Lounge
Re: Lounge
She still didn't really get it, but she liked to pretend she did.
Re: Lounge
Re: Lounge
The phrase was "pop star," Miley. Sigh.
Re: Lounge
Though there was someone eerily similar.Re: Lounge
"Oh. She doesn't?" Miley was a little disappointed by that news. "It's so weird how people you think are, like, mega-stars aren't actually as big as you think, right?"
Re: Lounge
The disdain in that one word was probably enough to convey which option he liked least.
"Just how it works."
Re: Lounge
Re: Lounge
Re: Lounge
"Roll with the punches," Miley repeated thoughtfully. "That could totally work. I mean, when you get turned into, like, ponies and whatever, that's kind of the only thing you can do." She tilted her head, absorbing this piece of news. "Thanks!"
Re: Lounge
Re: Lounge
Run for your LIFE, Jeremy.
"Thanks," she giggled. "And... I think I'm doing okay. At first I felt about as out of place as a rooster in a pigpen, but it started to feel natural pretty quick. How about you? How long've you been here?"
Re: Lounge
"Six months and counting," he shared easily. "Jules and me moved here in January. It was a culture shock but I think we've been pretty chill, all in all."
Re: Lounge
Yes, Miley, no need to explain the joke.
Re: Lounge
"Totally," he said. "Except you don't get clean, you just get more used to the freaky."
Re: Lounge
Re: Lounge
One of those things was more true than the other.
Re: Lounge
...Colloquialisms, Jeremy. Learn to love them.
Re: Lounge
"I... am going to guess that means really lost," he replied. "But no worries, I am totally here for you, and I'm pretty good with the weird."
And talking to pretty girls.
Re: Lounge
that had earned her her cheesy rhyming nickname, then batted her eyelashes at him one more time to make sure he got the message. "Thanks, Jeremy!"
