Caritas - Saturday evening after 3MD [Open]

Once the dates were over, GOB made his way back toward the bar and started bossing Tino around, just like old times. "Okay, let's show everyone how a real pro tends bar. Tino! Get me another scotch!" Yep. A real pro made Tino do all the work. These were tricks you never forgot, even years after leaving the bar business.

"Always happy to help a lady out." His sign was classic

It didn't have a lens flare. Who cared what else it looked like--NO LENS FLARE.

"Or because you didn't want to chase away your potential customers," Cindy countered. "That's just good business sense."

"Which I have in spades," Howard replied. "Why is it that I only see the women out on nights like this?"

Because hearing students talk about sausagefests was hilarious?

"You mean, nights when there's something more interesting than being ogled by unwashed pirates or served by your own students?" Cindy asked. "The zombies just aren't enough entertainment for me, I guess."

"...zombies?" He hadn't paid attention to the band before.

Cindy just turned and pointed to the band. "Welcome to Fandom."

"Huh." He missed just dealing with Nazis. "That's new."

"After a few weekends like the last one, the zombies start to lose their shock factor." She gave Howard a sympathetic look. "Want another scotch?"

"I'd never turn one down." Oh, Howard. Not quite as charming.

"Do you care what you're drinking?" Cindy asked. If he didn't, she was so getting him a glass of Laphroiag (http://mickrussom.blogspot.com/2008/05/laphroaig-best-single-malt.html).

"As long as there are no cartoons on the bottle, I've been reassured it will be fine."

"He'll have a Laphroiag," Cindy said to Tino. "Neat."

No reason to dilute the peaty, burning tire flavor with ice, after all.

"So, my guess is you're not from around here," she said. "Or around now, rather. Am I right?"

It was the mustache.

Ice with scotch could be considered blasphemy by some.

"You'd be correct. Was it the suit?" he guessed with a grin. "Nineteen forty-six, to be exact."

But water opened up the flaaaaaavor!

"It is a very nice suit," Cindy answered, which might be taken for a yes. But it was totally the pedo 'stache, sorry, Howard.

"I don't know if it's better or worse to find yourself in Fandom, then," Cindy said. "You're getting used to everything so adding in talking ponies and zombie bands are just a few more things to get used to."

"It was supposed to be a quiet place to get work done," Howard replied, taking a sip of the scotch.

Considering where he'd been staying before Fandom, it was wonderful.

Cindy had to laugh at that. "Who sold you that bridge?" she asked.

Howard just sighed, leaning against the bar. "I was on the front. So parts of this are... quiet. In a manner of speaking."

That did quiet Cindy down. "Eastern or Western front?" she asked sympathetically.

And then frantically tried to remember what she'd been doing in the forties. Spying in Germany ~~though not on Hydra~~ for some of it. She didn't think she'd met any Allies in Berlin...

"Eastern, for the most part." And then a nice little lab in Los Alamos. "Best to have the weapons designer know what they're dealing with in person, I guess."

...or something like that.

...Something like that, sure.

"They weren't worried the weapons designer might get hurt?" Cindy asked, arching a brow.

"Well, I couldn't let the boys have all the fun, could I?" Howard asked, taking another sip.

Because someone did have a reputation to keep up.

"I'm sure they were all very grateful you left some of the Huns for them," Cindy assured him.

Howard winked at her, downing the last of his drink. "Enough talking about war, you'll get me maudlin."

Cindy chuckled a bit. "If there's one cliche we can avoid tonight, it's a grown man crying into his drink."

"Enough about me then, I'm a terrible crier," Howard assured her. "What brings you here?"
