Caritas- Saturday

The place was open tonight, and hopefully people had actually heard about or seen the signs for the Over 18 party. Otherwise... this was going to be lame, oops.

The bar was open in case anyone wanted to drink (imagine that), and the floor in the back room had been mostly cleared with the tables pushed back so people could mingle or eventually sleep if they ended up not wanting to trudge home later.

And there was a sign out.

PARTYGOERS GET THE FIRST ROUND FREE!
(Must be over 18)

Hello, incentive.

[So I am off to drive the sidestreets up to LA on a spare tire and will be trying to ping from my phone, LJ permitting. If not, I will ping back as soon as I get back omg.]

Cable was not in pajamas. He just wore comfortable pants and a shirt.

The four-year-old redhead who was with him, however, was. "Party!" she cried.

There had been extensive debate about this in the Wilson-Summers household. Extensive.

Jan was not going near any beer. Or sleeping over. As a compromise, Cable had brought crayons.

They were visibly tucked in his pockets. Try not to stare.

"My daughter," Cable said dryly. He gave her a look. "Pryde. We won't be staying late."

Jan reached into his pocket and stole the red crayon. It was her favorite.

"Oh, give it some time," Cable said, with a brief smile. "Janice, please don't assault Miss Pryde's pajamas with that crayon."

Jan looked up, clearly disturbed that her artwork could be so thoughtlessly aborted.

"Please do," Cable deadpanned. "I think she's going to need it..."

"Thank you."

Jan was going to be happy and busy with her crayons and her paper now. Actually, she was rather goblinfaced about it. "Mine!"

"Nice party," Cable added. "We don't get a great deal of socialising opportunities for the adults on this island..."

Not that he, you know. Socialised.

"I like to think town has a calming influence on our citizens," he deadpanned.

"I prefer the expression 'not full of explosions'," Cable said. "But whatever works for you."

"Bored, Pryde?"

Amused, Cable? Yes.

Cindy was still mostly avoiding Cable, but he'd brought a little girl with him. Warnings needed to be issued. Catching his eye, she tilted her head back to the two trays of jello shots she'd left on a table and said, "It would probably be best if those stayed with the adults."

Not using the word that would bring them to the little girl's attention. Nooononono.

Cable peered over towards her and said, "Yes."

Jan was still very much preoccupied with attacking the paper with her crayons, though, and it was unlikely he'd do much more than hover over her for the two hours he'd finally agreed to show up.

Sigh, Wade.

"And good evening to you, miss Perrault."

"Mayor Summers," Cindy said, with a genial nod. Yes, he unsettled the hell out of her, but that wasn't going to be something she admitted to. "Glad I could pass the warning on."

She figured he'd probably had no plans to feed the little girl anything in the bar itself, but why be sorry when it was so easy to make sure?
